Today Nokia announced a new Nokia Research Center, located in Berkeley, California, that will be run in coordination with the University of California, Berkeley. This lab will focus on research surrounding parallel computing. This field of study should help Nokia learn how to accelerate mobile web browser and runtime environments, as well as increase mobile device performance while lowering power consumption in both active and idle modes. It will also explore better ways for devices to connect to multiple different types of wireless networks and seamlessly switch between them.
