Roaming & the Simply Everything plan

I just switched from Nextel to Sprint. The change has been a big disappointment. I get crappy signal in my house and at my job. These are the 2 places I go the most. However if I set my phone to roam only i get great reception in both places. Is this ok since there are no roaming charges with this plan or should I explain this to CS ans see if they will waive the etf?

Roaming-Included Plans: Not available with single-band phones, or to customers residing outside an area covered by the Nationwide Sprint PCS Network. Sprint may terminate service if (1) more than 800 minutes, (2) a majority of minutes or (3) a majority of data kilobytes in a given month are used while roaming. International calling, including in Canada and Mexico, is not included in roaming-included plans. Roaming usage may be invoiced after 30-60 days. Vision/Power Vision services and certain calling features (Voicemail, Caller ID, Call Waiting, etc.) may not be available in all roaming areas.

As for waiving the ETF, yes and no - depen...

Any major carrier will rarely, if ever wave an ETF because it doesnt work where you live. Its kinda up to you to try it out for 30days and see if it works. Some buildings are just made out of materials that kill the signal so most major carriers will not waive an ETF fee for it not working inside a certain building. Im not saying it doesnt ever happen but it is hard. I would just use your phone on roam when needed. If Sprint doesnt like it they will relieve you from your contract with no ETF anyway so roam away! 🙂 You cant lose there, either way wont have an ETF.

Cingular let me out of a contract once with them. I moved from the midwest when Cingular used TDMA and moved to the west coast where Cingular used GSM. My phone would wo...

You can just roam it up until if/when Sprint says something to you. 99% chance they never do. The policy is in place because with a company that has free roaming, it gets expensive if someone exclusively uses the phone on roam because then Sprint has to pay another carrier for every minute. As far as it not working well in your home and work, it is most likely becuase of the material the building is built out of. Even if another carrier works better there it is simnply because you happen to be closer to their tower. Thats all any service is, one's opinion is based on how well it works where you need it, if you live right next to a Tmobile tower than you will feel it works best or vice versa with any carrier.

For your home you could ...

It stays on Sprint in automatic at home. but I only have 1 bar and calls are not clear. My company offers a discount 4 Sprint that's the only reason I have them. The buildings have IDEN repeaters. The only way to get consistent strong signal is to force the phone to roam. I can't see having to buy a repeater then install it just to stay with Sprint. Also battery life suffers extremely with poor signal. most carriers phone's never show when your not on their network. My Verizon phone never did. Seems as if Sprint needs to get with the times on some things

Sprint is generally regarded as "ahead" of times in technology and features. Are you out of your 30 days? Why didnt you take the phone back right after you signed up when it didnt work at home or work when the 30 day return policy was good? Every phone Sprint offers will display "roam" on the screen when roaming, and 99% of them will warn you before roaming if you have that feature selected.

Low signal doesnt necessarily drain a battery, it ONLY drains more battery when the phone displays "Searching for service". Also, it will never show Searching for service when on Sprint only, if it doesnt get signal it will go into power save mode instead of constantly searching. That is the reason behind the myth that having it on home network...

I was told that because I switched from Nextel to Sprint the 30 day trial didn't apply to me for service only for equipment. I am still within 30 days though. Is this true of should I have 30 days on service as well?

Why did you change? If Nextel was working for you and Sprint isn't, why not stick with iDEN?
