I have been a Sprint/nextel customer in the past, I am now with at&t but I still have friends that use Sprint/nextel. I might switch back just for Direct Connect however I have been hearing rumors of the Direct Connect going away, can anyone tell me whats going on

Not going away.

DC is being upgraded to QChat. QChat is the Sprint network version of DC that is just as fast as, and backward compatible with Nextel.

QChat will have features such as call waiting while on DC, push to text (even FASTER than SMS texting!) ONE number for telephone and DC (e.g. 555-555-5555, 555*555*5555). Not to mention GREATER coverage!

Nextel iDEN will be around until at least 2012. New phones for regular ...

And the qchat phones should be out my the 15th!, along with new plans!
