Sprint Ringtone Scam

I recently got a bill that seemed way too high so when I checked into it there were 20 ringtones downloaded onto my account. I argued with sprint customer service for about an hour with them telling me I downloaded the ringtones and that I had to pay for them. After threatening to cancel they took the charges off my account. I thought that maybe somebody gained access to my online account but after talking to my brother, and a couple friends and even my mother....they all had the same thing happen to them....a bunch of ringtones that they didn't download were tacked onto their bills. Has anybody else had this problem??? Is sprint trying to rip people off or what?

Sounds as if one of two things has happened: either your account got mixed up with someone else's, or more likely, you've visited one of those "free ringtones" sites, and unwittingly subscribed to it. Most of those sites are scams.

I definately never visited one of those free ringtone sites. I have a treo, no need for ringtones when I have a ringtone program on it. Besides, why would sprint bill me?

If you haven't visited any ringtone sites, then probably Sprint has charged your account by mistake instead of one that probably has a similar set of numbers that did purchase the tones.

Another possibility is that if you don't have a data plan (unlikely since you have a Treo), maybe the charges are for data transfers???

Do you have anyone who you know that might think it is funny to go to a web site and just add your number with a bogus e-mail account. It can be done. If you think about it all you would really need is their phone number and name.

this also can happen if another user cancels their service because they didn't get how the concept worked and you ended up getting their recycled number. How long have you had that number? how long have you been getting those charges? did you recently change phone numbers?

Look at the short mail number on the account and reply STOP, you should receive a text following that the service has been canceled. How long have you been getting charged from this 3rd party ring tone provider?

I HAVE RECOMMENDED THAT THIS PHONE BE DISCARDED AND THAT NOONE I KNOW BUYS 1 OF THESE.!!!I HAVE POSTED THIS IN AS MANY FORUMS AS I COULD FIND ON THIS PHONE.
ALL IN ALL THIS IS A JUNK PHONE!!The sprint music and sprint tv doesn’t work(sprint blames lg for this),cant send picture mail or text with pictures attached,Everytime I try to go to my content manager I get something about the phone needs a handler, tell it to get the handler and the phone shuts down and restarts then tells you it needs the handler again.
I have called Lg and asked what format the ringtones were supposed to be in for them to work on my daughters rumor phone and they told me they didnt know that they just make the phones and sprint sends them the software to load ...
