why hasn't sprint made a international dc soc for the dcs phones? i have many customers calling bc they get these new phones thinking that the inter dc soc will carry over. im sure glad that we are coming out with new iden phones!!!

Study the technology involved. The short answer is, for the same reasons calling internationally is so expensive.

^^ Agreed.

It's a matter of the handoff of data/info from one system to another. For regular direct connect, the handoff is iDEN to iDEN. The tech is the mostly the same for Sprint and the company in the other country. For Sprint Direct Connect, the handoff is CDMA to CDMA, CDMA to iDEN, or iDEN to CDMA. Unless that is replicated in the other country it just won't work.

From what I've seen, it's being worked on but there is no date or substantial info yet regarding it's availability. For now, I'm just happy if the average rep knows that it won't work.

It's not a Sprint thing. The companies that operate mobile networks in those countries have to add the capability as Sprint did for their network here. Sprint has the feature, just the other countries have to license the technology and adapt their networks to use it.

They are working on it. I know that we have 5 phones that use the Direct Connect on the sprint "CDMA" network. Funny thing is on the website for sprint, they actually show as nextel phones. Be sure to research. My opinion, I believe they are rushing the DC on sprint network. They would be better to have waited for completion b4 releasing it. I believe that will just cause more frustration for some customers. But they are working on the whole DC on sprint network.
