Sprint Locks Down the UI on Their Phones, a la Verizon

Sprint
Back at CTIA, we were frightened by the appearance of the Sprint One Click “Carousel Interface” which surfaced on the LG Lotus, Samsung Rant, and Samsung Highnote. It reminded us all too well of the awful Verizon Wireless User Interface. But, Sprint assured us that like uiOne, that it could be completely disabled.

Only, they were wrong. Like the Verizon Wireless User Interface, Sprint is going to neuter all future phones with a consistent interface… that you have no control over.

Previously, Sprint used uiOne, a system that gave the use...

That's right people. Sprint has complete lock down on their MUI. The Iron Fist of the Third Reich shall prevail in all their glory!

Have we all reduced ourselves to complaining about things that have absolutely no meaning in life? It is unbelievable how spoiled Sprint Customers and the customers of other cellular companies really are. Maybe the next time you look in the mirror ask yourself...." Does this little gripe going through my little mind actually have any impact on my real life or the lives of anyone else? " Grow up and acquire some big people issues that really matter.

They've been doing that for their Motorola phones. They don't do it on their PDA phones. Lucky me!

Be prepared to see the GUI lock down on certain data concentric devices to commence real soon.

😳 Wow really? It's one thing to lame out like verizon and do the commie UI, but locking down smart phones too. I don't see that happening sure verizon blocks GPS, but that's it.

I assume you mean data-centric. the word concentric means haveing the same center, ie different sized circles one within another. The word suffix, on the other hand, is a modifying term used to describe what something is centered on.

Since you clearly like the word I thought you might like know how to use it correctly.

sorry but maybe you guys just haven't used the one click or afraid of change but hey i hear cricket could always use an extra $30 for they're crap service

I wouldn't recommend bashing Cricket or any other regional wireless carrier who offers unlimited service for $55 per month or less. Sure their customers are limited to a defined calling area, but for quite a large percentage of people, they for the most part don't travel outside the area. If I just want to be able to make/receive calls, do a couple of texts and/or check my e mail or browse the internet every so often, why the Hell would I want to sign up on a Sprint Everything Plan? Don't forget, Sprint's Boost Mobile Unlimited Plan is similar to Cricket's service.

i agree 100%. while those of us here are more tech savy and enjoy being able to customize our phones, you have to realize that the massive majority of cell phone users are complete morons that either dont know how to turn their phone on, or dont realize that you have to charge it so it keeps working.

with a common UI across all phones, its easier for the user to learn a new phone. it helps with retention and getting upgrades. a lot of people are afraid of getting a new phone because they dont want to have to learn how to use it all over again. the common UI avoids this issue.

it makes tech support a lot easier. if every phone has the same UI and same basic options and functions, then the fix is the same. instead of spending 15 minutes ...
