How do they know?
What is it that differntiates landline from cell phones? I know the npa/nxx can, but what about people who port their landlines, etc?
Does anyone know any of the technical information behind how this happens intercarrier and so on?
Thanks.
...
prolly the same way they know mobile to mobile
...
I thought about that but I don't think that is it. Mobile to Mobile they already know if it's a sprint/nextel number. I don't think Sprint has a list of every vzw, tmo, att, dobson, etc customer number.

then prolly the same way they know if u r texting a wireless number or a landline.

From the information I have gotten from my Sprint Rep., they know what is a land line, Voice over IP, and mobile calling. So the information is already in place as to know what is or isn't a land line or voice over IP.
That is the info i got this morning regarding the same question.

beyond what we see (carriers & home lines)
each cell phone/landline provider is assigned a list/group of phone numbers
and the system can tell where each came from. when you port in/out the sytem recognizes that and saves it.
theirs a website(cant remeber what it was) but i used it alot at work i can type ANY phine and it will let me know what provider its on.
hope this helps 😁
