Leaked internal Sprint communications reveals the carrier's plan to charge monthly for the phone's 3G/WiMax hot spot support. A web page entitled "Service Plans" says that special plans are being devised for the EVO 4G because it is the carrier's first 3G/4G handset. And while certainly not a surprise, the page goes on to talk about "monthly recurring charges" which could be in the neighborhood of $30 monthly. According to Sprint, the cost of the service-which turns your EVO 4G into a 3G/4G router-will be revealed closer to the launch of the device which could be as soon as June 6th as we reported on Thursday. Those whom were expecting Sprint to offer the service free had been pointing their finger at Verizon which offers similar hot spot su...

There's no technical reason i could see why the hotspot feature would stop other connections from working, just like like wifi doesn't effect on a regular phone, especially if its on 4G. That's not to say Sprint won't do it somehow, but I don't see them doing that.

Hopefully sprint will reconsider. Because 10 doller a month on top of what I'm already paying is not the best budget option for me.

have their internet interupted for phone/text/etc...

Whether or not you have to pay extra is to be seen... It would be silly for Sprint *NOT* to charge for something as kick ass as a 4G Hotspot...

as others have mentioned, you can point to Free Palm Hotspots all you want... but 4G is a different animal.

If Sprint only charged $5 it would be a steal... if the charged $30, it would be somewhat in line with other offerings ($30 for data, another $30 for tethering on other carriers)

I don't see why it would cost Sprint more, though. Unless the 4G service itself will have a more expensive plan, it's not like using it as a hotspot suddenly increases the speed. The data rates would be divided between the multiple devices using it; eight laptops running off of a single Evo would not all get full 4G speeds. They would be slowed by the amount of usage.

Not saying they won't charge, but it really seems like tacking on a charge 'just because'. Feels like a step backwards to me.

yeah $5 isnt that bad on top of a data plan or simply everything but the $30 is questionable.

$30/40(evo) for 8 devices and unlimited data... and 4G

vs

5G limit on tethering for whatever (not offered anymore?)

vs

$60/month for mifi/usb and 5GB.

Honestly its a good deal... if u think u'll go over 5gb.
