ground up>?
What do they mean when they say that the Sprint network is built from the ground up? Does this mean that they are not the result of a merger like Cingular or Verizon?

Yes on the merger thing. Also, it was digital (CDMA) from the beginning, unlike most other networks which started as analog and were upgraded to digital.

interesting fact, although sprintpcs officiallylanched in 1998 they actually started out in california in 1996 in that aria they started useing 800 mhz when the 1900 mhz standard was released they sold there 800 mhz licenses and bought the 1900 mhz licenses

If you want to talk history, an even more interesting fact (IMHO) is that they originally tried GSM technology, launching it as Sprint Spectrum in the Washington, D.C. area, before later settling in CDMA and launching it nationwide as Sprint PCS. 😉

its just a marketing phrase like verizons "we never stop working for you". its catchy. building from ground up is a disadvantage. their network is smaller and they have more drop calls than verizon even though they use the same technology. hmmm...i dont think it really matters if you're a merger or built it on your own. sprint service is still just ok

acctually you are how shal i say it wrong. ground up does acctually mean things. for example tek cingular who is perhaps one of the largest conglomerations out there some of there origional customers who have never upgraded phones or plans are on old billing systems. because they were on a regional carrier that was bought by cingular. as a result they can not just walk into any cingular store and have there bill pulled up it has to be from there own "SID" (although i doubt you k now what means because it is a term used in the industry and it is obvious that you do not have much experiance in the industry) patch work networks often times will not have the one billing system.
