There are these nasty critters called bots that weave their way across the internet looking for exactly that - plainly discernable email addresses. They cultivate these and then the spam gates are opened.
A good way to thwart them is to interject our actual address with "jargon" that a bot would not be able to discern.
Example, say your email is [email protected]
You could type it:
phone12345scoopHAHAuser(AT)hotmail(dot)com
Simply remove the '12345' and 'HAHA' and change the (AT) to @ and (dot) to . and you have the valid email address.
