some snipits:

"Led by Chairman and Chief Executive Gary D. Forsee, Sprint Nextel (nyse: S - news - people ) officials had in December called for savings of $12 billion over the next four years. But Santa came again in September, and the telecom firm now augurs savings of $14.5 billion. The figure includes taxes and some $1 billion in integration costs.

Forsee's firm also said it is increasing its investment in its wireless system, pumping $5.6 billion this year into equipment and system upgrades; $900 million will be infused into efforts to re-brand the network the hybrid gained from Nextel. In 2006, the company will spend $6 billion on equipment ...

I still think the numbers speculated in the rebranding of towers will have no effect on Nextel user's service. That 5.6 billion will go to the benefit of Sprint customers/service...

I honestly think they are hugely underestimating the cost of integrating 2 networks that are so different as CDMA and iDEN. Just my opinion, though.

That's true if integration was truly the issue. For now it looks like they got techs climbing all the Nextel towers and adding CDMA to 'em... Meanwhile, nothing is being done on the Nextel side...

That would be due to iDEN being phased out. Or at least as I understood it, that was the plan.

actually there are no plans right now to phase out the iden network after 2010, however, there are no plans right now to fund iden to run way after 2010. does that mean phase out? perhaps, but it could mean that they can talk to the governement to make iden a push to talk centric network and things of that nature.

It makes no difference, the fact of the matter is the Sprint customers will benefit, not the Nextel...

how is that the case? sprint is spending billions of dollars on the iden side and on the cdma side. they are building iden cell sites by the thousands nationwide every single year and probably will continue. this will benefit nextel customers. more coverage helps and benefits right?

They can say all they want about planning on dumping more money into the Nextel side of things... You were more on track in the other post about Nextel's path bringing it more towards a PTT-centric (only) path... Well, I use the cell service 10x more than I use PTT. The other employees I work with are all saved cell#/PTT# but my clients are cell only...

they can say all they want becuase they are putting billions into the nextel side of things. i was on track with all of the things i have said.

right now they are using the iden network for all customers not just for push to talk centric users. that will come around 2009-2010 time frame when they will evaluate what they are going to do with the iden network.

You simply are not worth the time of day.

You bitch at me for attacking you in my posts, and you say you want me to post something constructive. So I post something constructive and you attack me for that.

Why don't you just shut up for once in your life?

i am not worth the time of day? hmm.. well then how come you have thousands of posts of replying to me with regards to the other posts such as the thread about "Re: Looks like Sprint isn't doing so well after all -- Get Ready For Another A$$ Kicking!!!!!!!!!!!!" ?

all you have to do is talk about the facts at hand and do a sound opinion without attacking people like me. is it that hard? you say that you know how much it would cost when the CFO and the CTO already outlined what the costs would be and you say otherwise.... why would you say that?

constructive? lol hahhah you said "I honestly think they are hugely underestimating the cost of integrating 2 networks that are so different as CDMA and iDEN. Just my opinion, though." based on ...

Nah, it's just my standard response to anything I deem ridiculous or redundant now.

Can you do anything other than quote articles, and follow up with "opinions?".
