Anybody else getting pitched by Sprint-Nextel telemarketers on their cellphones?

Yesterday, a very nice lady from Nextel cutomer service called (unfortunately busy so I had to say call back later which she didn't) saying that they've noticed in the past five or so billing periods my DC usage has dropped to almost nothing. I explained I haven't really had a need for DC (just between my wife and I) because of what I'm doing now. The company provides me with a Nextel... But, couldn't talk so I was curious to find out what she could offer...

Today, phone call, couldn't answer it but the message was from Sprint this time saying sorry we missed you and will try again later. the message also said something about discounts on this & tha...

they sometimes call, email or send direct mail serveys about these types of things..

its more about retention.. they want to help you figure out what you need or what not...

I will sometimes get the pitch for a phone upgrade or if I have the need for an additional phone. I just tell them no as we are very happy with our i860 and i830's and no need for an additional one (of course unless they want to give me a free high end phone 🤣 ).

This happens about every 3 to 6 months.

suprising how you dont get huge discounts or free phones when you probably are an engineer with the company...

...hmmmm... and the ability to upgrade your phone on the Nextel side every three months so long as you sign another two year contract. I mean, I'm not even four months into this one and they're saying I can get the i870 for $269 so long as I re-sign another two years....

well as long as the customer isnt going anywhere and can get the phone cheaper then it is all good for them..

just want you to understand, if your not confused, that if you purchase a phone today for a 2 year contract then a few months later purchase a phone under a 2 year contract you dont get a 4 year contract..

if you knew that sorry, but i just wanted to make sure that people understand that..

...oh, I know... That's the whole reason why I do it...

When I sold Nextel phones/service years ago (prior to 2003) I lived with the i1000 and then the i60 for the longest time.

Now, he*l, I upgrade whenever something I like comes out. Although, not using DC that much anymore makes me consider switching to Sprint for the family ver of F&F...

hey.. you can switch if you want.. as long as it makes you happy its alright.. 🙂 sprint/nextel still gets the revenue... at least if your not in the nextel partners area, you dont have to pay any fees..

Nah, I'm in central Florida. I've been waiting to switch to SprintPCS because of the no longer needed DC but the phones aren't there. At least not price-wise. The RadioShack marks the phones up from full retail (it seems) 300%. The 'Sprint Store' in my area is an exercise in futility, the agents only speak Spanish, the brochures are from 2003, and I might get mugged. As I said, I'll wait and see the next time I get a phone call from them and see what they have to offer. I definitely won't back-pedal because the displays on the i760 & i850 are incredible (18bit, 176x220, 262k color) vs the Sanyos except for the 9000...

That's completely based on location. Sprint's problem(s) (as discussed many times) are in-building coverage issues. From people's homes to concrete office buildings it seems if those areas are serviced by a 1900MHz tower, its a crap-shoot where (in which room or floor) you'll get a signal.

Other than that all the major carriers (top four) have fantastic coverage in Florida. If you look at any of the service/coverage maps from any carrier, Florida (for some reason) is always there. Some people believe it's because this is where the wireless bubble started... Others believe that back in the day, it was the easiest place to put towers because all you had to do was show up at the state capital with money, not designs making towers look...

I decline to answer for fear of it making me migrate over to Sprint, now. 😁

Certain areas, Nextel has always had an incredible ability to provide the most crisp/clear phone calls, better than a cordless phone...

However, from others, a dropped call has almost never happened on the Sprint side...

With DC (PTT) being much much less of a concern as it once was it probably makes more sense to migrate over to Sprint. Only problem: how are they moving contacts from Nextel SIM card to Sprint CDMA phone? Ooops, I bet its by hand... my hand...
