Sprint Dual Mode phone
I live in the thumb of Michiagn, Vassar to be exact. Although we are surrounded by towers, Thumb Cellular has a lock on the towers somehow; it's the last holdout with high cost and $$ roaming outside it's network. There are some sort of legal issues that prevent the big cell carriers from using TC towers, not sure.
Nextel is the only carrier that works reliably outside of Thumb Cellular, however I don't want Nextel.
Just before Christmas I purchased 3 Sprint phones after being reassured they would work at my home, although I had my doubts. It didn't matter if I was out of network, I just wanted to be able to use it. I don't recall which phones they were, but one, mine, was digital and I questioned why it wasn't a tri-mode phone. The Sprint-Nextel dual modes won't be out for a while. When they do, they will have CDMA for voice and iDEN for their PTT. This will probably still leave you in the same boat when it comes to making *cell* phone calls. Not knowing anything about the 'thumb' of Michigan besides why it's called that, hopefully someone would know more about what's going on in that area...
