18, what is going to happen to the exclusive deal that Nextel has with Motorola on handsets. Will there be more Moto handsets coming to Sprint or what. These 2 do not seem to have the best relationship b/c Sprint does not get any good Moto phones.
...
well i cant really talk about what will happen, but motorola will be a big part of this merger.. they are a big contributor of the dual mode phone, and i am restricted to share what in fact they will actually do.
yea sprint and motorola aarent really on a good relationship level but same thing with nextel and motorola.
...
thus why nextel phones steadily get crappier
...
well that isnt nextel's fault, it is motorola's fault and they will pay dearly, motorola that is, after 2008. unless motorola pleads to nextel to keep them and improve on these problems and bad relationship.
...
but if this was to happen, who else could manufacture these type of phones. as far as I know there are the only ones that nextel has ever had right"?
...
well once qchat is on the system, you really dont need to have nextel anymore especially with the test results that have been reached.. once that happens, anyone can, however, motorola will be a part of either 1. the infrastructure or 2. part of the phone itself...
they can choose any phone manufacturer they want. (after the exclusivity is up)

I agree. However, I still think Moto is banking on their think-tank of Michaelangelo/Da Vinci genius' responsible for great designs such as the RAZR, SLVR, etc... (Too bad there are still problems with the engineering think-tanks) Hey, if that's the only way they can gain market share, so be it.
...
yea i agree. i mean what is with this recent press release or news that said they arent worried about quality control with the razr even though there were so many problems? i dont get it.
well, if they want people to respect them, they should do the right thing.. they will pay if nextel stops going to them after 2008.
...
what exactly is qchat?
...
it is a push to talk solution that was developed by qualcomm to be used over the ev-do rev a network..
...
so is it similar to the kodiak solution that cingular uses or is it completely different.
...
and is it as fast as iden?
...
kodiak and iden are pretty close on paper, however, in real world iden's is better.
qchat is very very close to iden's and better then kodiak.
...
so what will be some of the advantages of qchat
...
advantages;
bigger network to be on with lesser capacity demanded.
lower latency during the set up call (so far 1.5seconds)
lower latency during intra call. (none when tested)
if sprint/nextel wants to they can offer international push to talk solutions becuase qchat can reach other 3g cdma networks.
VOIP.
does over the air upgrades.
better interface.
easy implementation.
can be used in all applications.
improves the load on the network (capacity).
twice more bandwidth efficent.
interoperable with nextel's direct connect.
increase arpu from PTT by about $4-$20 (according to estimates)
and well, qualcomm does it, and you know thats great enough. 🙂
...
so you will be able to PTT people on IDEN as well as qchat. Seems like its gonna be great. Do you know if it will have a conference call like feature.
...
you should be able to, however, that is not in the works right now when the phone will be released in october, but if they changes i will be first to share.. i am not sure if it has a conference call like feature..
well qchat could replace nextel's iden if the set up calling improves but it will def. destroy the other guys, especially with the international capability.

Looks like Sprint is the most promising of all the wireless companies. I mean I've seen numerous articles about them testing out different kinds of wireless broadband technology (even one here in Houston). In a couple of years, it looks like they will have more to offer than any of the other providers and widen the ARPU gap they already have.
Also, do you think they will have video calling with REV-A or is that something much further down the line.
...
yes, sprint is becoming a very well positioned well balanced "content provider" not a carrier anymore, becuase with their technology that they have, spectrum and network assets, cable deals and other joint ventures and subsiduaries. they are testing out all kind of technologies such as; td-cdma, flarion's ofdm, wimax, and others. they want to make sure that it is a demand driven solution before they release it becuase they dont want to waste money. that is one of the big things that differntiates themselves from the pack.
i think video calling on REV A could be happening, however, i think on perhaps REV B or wimax, or td-cdma or flarion that we would see video calling. i think it will be marketed to businesses first then consumers second...

some might complain about the privacy issue of seeing what the person is doing while talking to u
...
i am not sure how exactly kodiak works but qchat uses VOIP and the provider's IP network.
