Some new Sprint plans now include roaming. However I would not recommend you switching your phone to Roam Only.

If all you do it roam, Sprint has the right to terminate your agreement. It is stated in the terms and agreements.

It states "Sprint may terminate service if the majority of minutes in a given month are used while roaming off the nationwide Sprint PCS network."

Whether they really do it is the real issue. I have never personally seen it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Hope this helps you out in the future.

Just set your phones roaming setting to automatic, that way if youre getting bad sprint service it will switch to the stronger signal. Also, if you have recently (the past 2 months or so) gotten a fair and flex plan, roaming is included, so enjoy using verizons towers without dealing with the ****y reps, ugly nazi interface, crippled phones, etc. 😁

Sprint can't roam on Verizions digital network, only the analog one and Verizon can't roam on the sprint network. While they both use CDMA, Verizon uses a different protocol for the phones to talk to the towers set up when they were Primeco. Most roaming on both carriers is in the 800mhz analog band, some owned by Verizon, Cingular and Altel. Analog will be shut down in 2008. More info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Mobile_ Phone_System#Companies_using_AMPS I sell 3 carriers and I think I've heard it all. 🙂

Sorry, I love Wikipedia as much as the next guy, but they are dead wrong. Sprint absolutly roams on VZ. That is why sprint phones are 800 and 1900 Mhz. The pcs side is 1900 and they can also roam on VZ's 800mhz. Also as a frame of reference, Primeco in Hawaii is now Sprint PCS. It was only the mainland Primeco markets that merged to become VZW.

Nice to know, I had asked my VZ rep about it and he now says only where Sprint and VZ have agreements and if the phone supports digital roaming or not. My Sprint Sanyo 4900 has 1900 PCS and 850 analog, but the newer ones have AMPS 850 and CDMA 850 and PCS 1900 as well. I have noticed the Sprint EVDO phones do not have AMPS at all. I guess it is to get us ready for the big analog shut down. Guess I won't be using my phone in the Mountains of Montana anymore.

Been there, done that. Read the fine print. And remember, whatever you do, don't turn off the ROAM nag, even if a Sprint rep says "no problem".
