Sprint operates an all digital network with services being the same at any given spot, Verizon has a 40% CDMA network with 60% analog service. Strike one for Verizon. Sprint has lanched Sprint TV, Sprint Music Store, And Ready Link all of these features were launched months before Verizon could have even dreamed of deployment. Strike Two for Verizon. Finally with the addition of NEXTEL to the Sprint family and the up coming CDMA - IDEN mode phones Sprint has owns 4 times more coverage than any carrier. This is due to the fact that sprint does not rent towers ever like all the other carriers. Its nice to know that Sprint is so confident in their service that they will actually buy the equipment.

some corrections: Verizons network is probably more like 98% Digital CDMA and 2% analog roaming.

also on strike 2 i meant that may be right from the music angle.

and another correction, when you buy something from the music store it goes to both comp and phone. and yes nextel's voice side isn't near as good, but it offers coverage none the less.

i know nothing of the rest of the crap so i'll leave it alone heh

sprint had their ready link service out on 11/17/03 and verizon launched it on aug(😎 14th 2003. therefore, verizon launched it earlier then sprint.

""strike three" IDEN? lol.. IDEN is an extremely inferior technology and Nextel's voice network has always left alot to be desired. "please hold while the nextel subscriber you are trying to be reached is located" and then off to voicemail you go."

actually nextel's iden is pretty good, although it does suffer when there is a lack of spectrum and problems in that area.. they are fixing that... that message isnt becuase of capacity problems, it is becuase the customer is either on direct connect or internet. 🙂

I don't know if anyone remembers but when Verizon launched there push to talk it pretty much flopped. It had almost a 15 second delay and flooded their network. It was AWFUL!!!

Sprint then pushed back their launch date to make sure their network would support the new feature.

So whoopdi f@#k do who launched first maybe everyone should consider who's worked better ONCE it launched......Sprint!!!!

It didn't compare to Nextel's but it was better than Verizon's. It had only maybe a 3 second delay.

The new phone that is coming out is going to have sprint's data and voice network with nextel's PTT i may be wrong though, so when that new phone comes out it should be instant on the 2-way side and just basically kick A$$

IDEN is not a very good technology its vastly inferior to CDMA (which sprint and verizon use) and GSM (tmo cing etc). it is good for the two way direct connect but for voice its not very good, also unless im mistaken by adding these new CDMA/IDEN phones are you guys really gaining any new coverage? I dont recal nextal having service in many if any areas that sprint didnt.

now if sprint could get some sort of tri mode phone with dual band digital cdma and some form of TDMA on a phone and use the CDMA for voice and the IDEN network for PTT that may be pretty cool. it does seem like it would cost more then it would be worth to run two seperate networks tho.

well in some ways IDEN is better then CDMA and vice versa, but i would agree that overall IDEN isnt better then CDMA. IDEN actually has very good capacity on their voice and coverage but the problem with IDEN is that it converges with other public safety users which creates interference. when nextel fixes the that situation, which they are doing and they will have a block of clear spectrum, things will get better becuase it wont be so congested like it is now.. IDEN will always outperform other technologies when it comes to capex and direct connect.

the new dual cdma/iden is basically to allow less bandwidth on nextel's iden side becuase as you know direct connect uses around 1/10th of the tower space.. it is basically an easy way to hav...

Ready link is pretty good.......when you compare it to Nextel, its a little slower, like 3-5 seconds on the initial connect then 1-3 seconds after connection. When you look at Nextel's phone quality, CDMA smokes IDEN. looking at the 2 together I take pretty good PTT and VERY good phone over damn fast PTT and fair at best phone!
