Roaming?!?!? Sprint Site Contradicts Itself

I don't understand how roaming is or is not charged after reading the threads. I just saw alot of arguing.

I go to Sprint.com and look plans in my area and see that I can subscribe to the Fair and Flexible Plan that says "No roaming charges" at the top.

Notice it does not have an asterisk, but at the bottom of the page is a footnote that says "Domestic off-network roaming calls are $0.50 per minute with an extra $0.25 per minute long distance charge where applicable."

How can there be no roaming charges but I will be charged fifty cent for off-network roaming calls?

I don't understand.

Also what is the difference between Digital and Analog roaming?

The text on the bottom is for people who don't have the "Fair and Flexible AMERICA" Plan. You can basically disregard this, the only exception is if you use over 50% of your minutes while roaming (not how many minutes your plan allots you, but how much you actually USE)

As far as the difference between analog, and digital roaming, it's somewhat simple you are aether roaming on another networks analog, or digital technology. Sprint only owns a 1.9Ghz PCS digital network, they include the 800MHz digital, and 800MHz AMPS capability for their phones for roaming.

If you go to

http://www1.sprintpcs.com/explore/servicePlansOption ... »

the headings for the seperate plans are "Sprint Fair & Flexible Plans", "Sprint PCS Fair & Flexible America Plans for Families", and "Sprint Free Incoming Plans".

The "Sprint Fair & Flexible Plans" claims to have no roaming, but that is not the "Fair and Flexible America" plans you reference.

I was charged for roaming on the F&F plan despite being told I wouldn't be.

I just was avoiding roaming but after reading the other threads I'm wondering if I'm being billed wrongly and I ...

It sounds like there is an issue with the billing codes on your account. It happens. Definitely contact Sprint CS or go to the local Sprint store or RadioShack. These things are easy to correct once they are discovered.

If over 50% of your calls are OFF network, then you will pay the roaming charges (just like with EVERY OTHER CARRIER, DON'T FOOL YO SELF!)...

analog and digital are different frequencies.... analog is what is out in the boon docks, what old bag phones were based off of. this annihilates your battery life, sounds like a bad cordless phone, and will go against the roaming allotment definately.

digital is the band everyone else works off of one way or another. there are just different digital bandwidths that carriers operate off of. verizon and sprint are cdma for example and tmobile and cingular are gsm/gprs.

digital gets better signal and battery life. digital also gets MUCH MUCH MUCH better sound quality because it converts your voice into bianary code (00100111001...) and goes over the air and reconverts it back into voice when it reaches the callers. this is why when you ...

LOL, here we go again.

Why would the phone say "ROAM" if it's in the extended network....oops, that's right, Sprint doesn't have extended network.

Why do you guys keep telling people EVERY carrier is the same? Verizon does not have a 50% in-network policy, period. That's why they have "Extended Network". As long as the phone displays Extended Network, there's no roaming charges and you don't need to count minutes out of network. If you connect to a tower that's not a Verizon affiliate, then there are roaming charges. This is a very rare o...

yes, you can use your verizon phone in extended network and not be charged roaming, but do you really use more than 50% outside of your "normal" network? probably not. because if you did, verizon would terminate your service for not using more than 50% of your minutes in their network. and THAT is in the fine print. it's just not cost effective for verizon, or any company, at that (yes, i said ANY, uh-oh!) to let you use your minutes on towers that they do not own.

by the way, you just contradicted yourself by saying that you have to use 50% of your minutes within the verizon wireless "america's choice" network, which, if i'm correct, is NOT extended network.

Before I get flamed, I'd also like to say there are things about Verizon that drive me nuts, one being their lockdown policy on bluetooth and using Moto Tools with Moto phones, another is lack of plan options like 'Nights begin after 7:00'.

If my phones from Sprint worked as advertised with respect to roaming, I'd still have them, even with their horrible CS.

One other thing about Sprint: their "unlimited" data packages are anything but that. It's either unlimited or it isn't. What is it with these slick marketing ads and their disingenuous claims? They all seem to do it in one form or another.

now you are going off on a completely different tangent. there are unlimited data plans and other limited data plans. unlimited for 59.99 with sprint voice plan and 79.99 without a voice plan. then there are smaller, limited plans that you can pay for. so before you get "flamed" get your story straight.

i think you must have worked for sprint once before and got screwed somehow and now are just being a bitter bitch and complaining about sprint to anyone who will listen/read.

quit being so bitter and go gush over how fabulous you think verizon is because i am sick of reading your little wine-fest posts quite honestly.

first, i don't get paid minimum wage.... i'll just leave it at that. all sprint employees on this forum can vouch for that. second, i wasn't even alive until 1980. third, i've never had any problem with sprint's "without limit" plan. fourth, you, as a consumer, should know to read the fine print before you sign anything. so, it IS sort of your fault.

i no longer work for sprint, and have not for a few months. from my experience, however, i can tell you that everyone is the same. everyone's fine print states pretty much the same thing. i have the power vision on my phone and i use it all day: streaming videos, accessing the sprint music store, reading emails, sending pictures. i probably use more than the average consumer when it comes to...

I understand where you are coming from. My Sprint bill clearly states in a box next to the charges that because I chose an America plan roaming calls are treated like normal voice calls. That means no roaming right??....no. I emailed back and forth to some CS rep with Sprint, to explain to me how it says this, but roaming is charged. Well, after all this emailing, with the rep that wasn't answering my questions, he finally just put a $5 credit on my account. I assume because he couldn't answer the question. So, anyone able to answer why it says that on my bill, but isn't true? Sorry to everyone that has no problem understanding this, everyone says asking questions about it is annoying. I just thought that was the point of the forum.

I don't think that it's annoying at all. When people start bashing sprint and the forum users, however, that's a different story. I think that everyone tries to help out the best that they can. But there are some people here who just make snide comments as opposed to just 1. not answering or commenting at all or 2. offering a real answer.

I will always do my best to answer any questions that I can.

Well, thanks. No one should come and bash anything, I just wanted to be able to ask questions without someone that knows the answer making me feel like an idiot.

Yeah, some people act like this forum is their life and they know everything that there is to know. I am guilty of it at times as well. Try not to take what some of these folks say personally. To them, we are just another customer that they have to regurgitate all of the same information to over and over again. I know a few of the screen names that just post for the sake of saying something silly and trying to get under someone's skin. Don't let anyone here make you feel stupid.... they may be more informed about this than you are, but I'm sure you know a thing or two about things they only wish they knew!
