a bigger footprint and accessible to data roaming, which i think will be key. the only problem is pricing/billing for the carriers.

...indeed... until Sprint decides to buy them, too. The only thing preventing them is VZW but with all this VZW buying Vodafone shares broohaha, it could happen.

yea; it would be nice for sprint to buy out alltel, not sure if it would happen though especially without any divestitures. verizon isnt preventing sprint becuase as you said verizon has to buy out vodafone first and that will take $50+B. it is a better idea after sprint and alltel spins off their local to look at alltel (the wireless business) even more closely and to combine it with sprint's wireless business. not a bad idea.
