so i go into the sprint store the other day because my GF wanted to upgrade her phone, and i happened to tell a sprint rep how much i love sprints service and how i get such great service no matter where i go here in southeast Michigan. She said let me see your phone, and then said that now that she changed my roaming option to "sprint only" that i will get EVEN BETTER service. Is this true? She also said that the sprint rep that sold me the phone (got it a little over a month ago) should have set it from AUTOMATIC to SPRINT ONLY...

it this true? which is better? wouldn't automatic be better, because what if maybe i go somewhere where sprint doesn't cover (even thought i have never been in that scenario yet) would that mean it wouldn't p...

Well, the last time I remembered that roam only only lets you improve on your voice quality, but I think your other enhanced services goes away. If you don’t want any of the extra enhanced services then I guess leave it at roam only but if you want the enhanced ones put it on automatic because it will search for the best signal and it will make sure you will have those services. If you left it at roam only you will only get the signal that Verizon or other cdma vendors transmits and you wont get Sprint’s which you need for the enhanced services. I would leave it on automatic.

If you don't plan on roaming I would switch your phone to Sprint only. Leaving it set to automatic contributes to dropped calls. Your phone will always be looking for that stronger signal and can cause alot of dropped calls. Setting it to Sprint only locks your phone to the sprint network. Your phone won't be searching for service from another network therefor helping your call quality.

Actually I don't see anywhere he mentioned ROAM ONLY. However I do see where he mention SPRINT ONLY and AUTOMATIC. You may want to read this again. I have attached it for you!!!

This is a major point of contention for me.
IMO, it is NOT better to set a phone to Sprint ONLY, the ONLY time I feel it should be set that way is to avoid roaming charges.
Setting a phone to home only effectivly cuts your options for service in half.
If you go into an area without sprint service, you will get....... NO SERVICE.
And SPCS towers can soft handoff to VZW towers, so the dropped call theory is moot.

I would only set my sprint phone to Sprint Only when I had not updated my plan to the new ones that include roaming to avoid the charges. All of the new plans include roaming so the automatic setting is fine.
