Ok i have a question...
I have a cingular phone....my brother has spring with 3 additional lines. 1 line is in service but not being used. I want to use that line and port my number over, do i have to extend the contract on the phone to port my number over inplace of it if its already under contract?
Also....
I dont like the phone on the account. Where do you suggest i get another phone? I like the samsung slider, a800 and the Nokia 6165i. Not crazy about the larger sanyo phones. Any suggestions?

You shouldnt have to sign a new 2yr with Cingular if you are planning on porting your number out to Sprint. Now, if you are currently IN a 2yr with Cingular, you may be billed a Termination Fee for cancelling service with them prior to your contract being up. Also, in all but the rarest of circumstances, Sprint requires a 2yr to be signed when initiating service... pretty standard among most mobile carriers nowadays.
The A800 is a BADA$$ phone! Well designed, nice camera, Pic-Bridge capable (hooks up to a compatable p[rinter to print pics directly from phone). Im not too big a fan of Sprints 3G-data Nokias (mostly because theyre a pain-in-the-ass to troubleshoot), though ive heard that the 6165 isnt too too bad. As far as the LG you menti...

I am not getting my own account at Sprint. my brother already has a phone activated with a number that no one uses. I just want to port my number to that phone to replace its current number. Can i do that without extending his contract?
My cingular contract expired in January.
I assume in order to get a newer phone id have to sign another agreement so i was going to get one off of ebay (ive done this before). Will sprint charge us anything to switch the phones on the account? What phones would you recommend? I like the Nokia flip phone but its not on the sprint site, 6165i. I like the LG LX350 too.
Also, this Sprint PCS Vision pack for 15.00, does that include unlimited text messaging? I noticed for 5.00 you now get 300 text msg's...

um... i just saw where you said the LG350... i read it as the LG550 (Fusic)... yeah... theres a big difference there... its "okay"... but, nothing too too special. IT sorta depends on what you want from a phone. Feom the phones you mentioned (Samsung A800, and LG-350) looks like youre more interested in the style of the phone (since both are sliders). If thats the case, the next question you would have to answer is; which is more important? saving money, or getting good reception?
Although Sprints Samsung phones dont generally get the greatest reception, theyre definitely better than the Sprint branded LG's. So... youre call from here. If you have any more questions, let me know.

well having a loud earpiece is important and i really want a bright screen. I typically talk and text more than anything. Not a big person on the internet (infact ive never used it).
I just want a bright screen where i have no problems hearing people on the speaker. I am also not a big fan of larger phones.

Just a heads up!!!
Since you are porting into an existing line unless your brother has had the same phone on that line for at least a year you will not qualify for a rebate. Most likely you are going to have to purchase a new phone if you are interested in something other than what is currently on the account. ☹️
This is just from what I have seen and heard.
...
that phone has been there for a year i think. I dont want to extend his contract so i assume id have to buy a phone outright anyways.
...
You are correct.
I am agree about the Nokia's. I would stay away from them. The A800 is the bomb if you don't mind that it is a bigger phone.
...
A800 is expensive if you buy it without a contract

Be careful, if you change the existing phone on your brother's plan Sprint might make you sign another 2yr just for the ESN swap....
...
Not if you go into a store and do it...thats not true...I doubt even customer care would make you sign a new 2yr AA just for an esn swap
A plan change maybe (although the stores can bypass this) but not an esn swap

A 2yr would not be required to swap an ESN.

So i guess what i need to know is...can i port my number to sprint without extending my brothers contract.
and
What phone should i buy off ebay...like a top 5 that i should get. My bro has a sanyo on that line but it has no external screen or camera.
last question...all my brothers phone numbers for some reason are long distance when you call from a house phone. My cingular number is not. It wont become long distance if a port it right?
...
I'm pretty sure porting your number will make you renew the contract....everytime I've ported a customer's number it requires a new contract. And if your number now is not long distance, then switching to Sprint won't change that. Also, my opinion the A800 is not the phone I would choose. All you are getting is a 2 mega-pixel camera. Waste of money. If you want MP3 then I would go w/ the Sanyo 7500 (no blue-tooth), Samsung A920, or the LG-550 (Fusic) either of those 3 would be good depending on which you like better. If no MP3 then the Sanyo 8300 is my choice. The LG-350 for the money is good but I think you will like the 8300 better. You might hold out til the 8400 comes out (not sure when but I've heard soon!) I believe it will h...

im porting my number from cingular to replace a current number on my brothers phone plan. That will require an extension?

The LG 350 is not a slider, that was the LG 325. The 350 is the glossy blue flip phone with the cool display that scrolls across the front.
I think thats an awesome phone for 49.99 after savings. The A800 is pretty damn cool, only problems being there is not mp3 or bluetooth (which a lot of people dont care about)
I happen to really like the Samsung A920, but its personal preference. Both are 150.00 after the instant saving on a 2yr agreement.
...
its all about cost. I pay 45.00 at cingular now. My bro is only gonna charge me 15.00 on his sprint account. 10.00 for the line, 5.00 for the text messaging.
I need a phone with a loud earpiece and nice bright color screen that i can get under 100.00 or so on ebay. Can i change phones without extending the contract if i got the phone on ebay? Can i port my # in place of the current number without extending the contract?
...
you may be able to buy a phone on eBay for real cheap-like, but... before you buy it, call in and have someone in Tech Support check to see if the ESN is already listed on another account, or if the ESN is listed as being 'lost/stolen'... if it is, you wont be able to use the phone, no matter what. unlike the Cingular phones you are used to (GSM phones that utilize SIM-cards), Sprint phones are all registered in our billing system. meaning 2 things:
1-you cant activate a non-sprint phone.
2-we keep track of all of our phones at all times.
as far as being charged for the ESN-swap, thats simply not true. if Customer Service chooses to charge you for it, then its only because theyre trying to screw you over... since thy dont get ANY comis...

Now heres what you'll have to do. You'll have to in order to have your brothers phone with your cingular number and to not extend your brothers contract, is call sprint and request a port to that current phone number on your brothers phone that hes not using. Now if yo dont want to extend your brothers contract on that line you will need to buy a phone out right at full retail price. Or you can also buy from Ebay usually a good idea is to always call the person selling the phone to get the ESN DEC and check with customer service and see if its flagged for fraud or if its currently in use. If it has anyone of those flags on that ESN you wont be able to use it.
hope this helps!
