Sprint Downfall

Ameercat

Sep 2, 2006, 10:11 AM
I just wanted to shout out and say a few things about Sprint. My uncle dropped his Sprint phone and broke it the other day, I happened to have a Alltel phone which is the same as any other CDMA,PCS phone, which I don't use cause I'm with Verizon now, anyhow I went to activate it on the Sprint network. Well, let me tell you this, I have never dealt with a more nasty bunch of MORONS in my life. The customer service staff must of came from clown college, what a joke. Bottom line is Sprint will not activate another CDMA phone. It must have their logo on it. It can be the same phone, but no logo, no activate. I can understand why this company is starting to go under. I used to have Sprint about 10 years ago, after they screwed up my bill, and overcha...

Every CDMA carrier... it is how the software is integrated into the phone as apposed to the sim card in GSM carriers, and in that case you still need to ensure that the phone is unlocked.

Downfall is a little harsh for an old man dropping his phone..

Sprint customer service is just like anyone elses.. sometimes you get a good one, sometimes you dont.

Although, when you are asking them to do something that is just about imposible.. you are only going to get bad. Bad only because they wont be able to make you happy.

Insurance is very inexpensive. Invest in it.

i agree.. we feel bad when we don't get what we want... and worst of all we forgot that "ignorance of the law excuses no one" - it is apllicable to all companies, network provider or not... companies cannot discuss everything unless you ask...

Sprint has a list of ESN's (electronical serial numbers) and CDMA carriers will not except an ESN that cant operate on their network, impossible, a verizon phone will only work on verizon, ect.

There are numerous threads where users are able to activate another carriers phone on Verizon, but of course, I figure the site administrator's words will carry a bit more weight then mine.

.... now what where you all saying?

Verizon is a little more forgiving. If you get the right Verizon employee to help you, and know the right settings, you can usually activate any compatible CDMA phone on Verizon

Sounds like a bunch of if's to me. But anyways, why would you want to activate a phone when you can't use any of the features. Thats just me. To my knowledge from knowing many people that work for Verizon they have said they are unable to activate another phone from a diff CDMA carrier, maybe they just don't know how or something.

Really? That's interesting. I've activated a T-mobile phone on cingular, also a AT&T on cingular. Ever hear of bitpim? Actually Cingular is great when its comes to other GSM phones. If you unlock a phone, it works on another carrier as long as the OS is the same (GSM,CDMA,...)I even had a sprint phone work on verizon's system at one point. Yea, logic DUDE, try it. I guess the circus is in town?

Ameercat, the reason why you were able to activate a TMO phone on Cingular is because the SIM card is what make the phone active, provided that the phone you are using is able to accept that sim then you will be able to use it. Cingular activated one of *their* SIM cards and you simply placed that into your GSM phone which was unlocked.

It's not the same with SPRINT where the ESN is what makes the phone active, the ESN is programming within the phone itself.
Just as you wont be able to use a TMO SIM with Cingular, you wont be able to use an Altel ESN with Sprint.

in addition - i think cust service has nothing to do with it - even if the rep graduated from the best college in the u.s.a. if the system will not allow the phone to be activated it will not be done - to get it done you need to do a major reprogramming of the system - ☚ī¸

GSM technology is fairly simple to unlock.
Cingular to T-mobile is sometimes just a few computer clicks away..

Unlocking and activating American CDMA is quite a bit more complicated.

When you unlock a GSM, you lose the internet feature, unless you flash the phone, as well as unlock.

Once again, somewhat easy with GSM, much more complicated with CDMA.

The complication isnt worth the switch.
What I suggest is maybe doing your research on each phone then buy which one is going to be the best for you.

The most common factor in people switching carriers is just plain and simple... They hate their phone.

Sure "free phone" sounds nice, but if you go with a phone that is going to last you- and add insurance, you will never ha...

Well i had a customer that had a Sprint phone activated on Verizon network but there was a long discussion about the service being in Dominican Republic, so it may be restricted to certain geographical locations that one particular service may not be provided...i just really want to sound smart but it's a possibility 😛

Bottom line: SPCS will not allow you to activate a non-Sprint-branded phone on their network. *PERIOD* When the phone is manf, the manf sends the ESN to Sprint to add to their acceptable activation database. This db also includes Sprint 'black-listed' phones that have either been stolen, turned in for insurance credit, etc...

GSM carriers T-Mo & Cingy are probably the most forgiving so long as the phone is 'unlocked'. Unlocking (unless purchased that way) is an exercise in futlity whether the carrier has an unlock code, the manf of the phone, or paying someone over the internet to do it (which requires you to send it to them)...
