So...what your saying is that personal experience doesn't matter everything should be based off of computer coverage models and customer service training manuals? Wow I hope you look smarter than you sound.

that was rude. hes right. your personal experience means nothing. i have never treated any customer worse than they deserved to be treated. and most of the reps i know are that way. im sorry if you had a bad experience, but dont lump me in with all the idiots.

I have never heard of Cingular dropping a customer becuase of a % of roaming. Plus, I don't know what area you are using your phone in...but if you were roaming while using Cingular then you more than likely be roaming if you go to Sprint. Sprint will cancel your service if you use more than a certain % of your minutes that are roaming. But I have never ever heard of Cingular doing that. hmmmmm

I guess they, Cingular has just started to do that at the beginning of the year. I was told that every couple of months my local Sam's get a rush of people in asking why this is happening and what is going on. Didn't Cingular and AT&T join together at the beginning of the year?

So, based on your "experience" is the deciding factor here.. Verizon sux's. I camp all over the state of michigan. Some of the kids and parents in the scout troop have various cell providers. Clair Mi, Verizon roamed and/or didn't work. Metamora MI, again, Verizon was spotty, some services didn't work. Yes, I'm biased. I have sprint and it worked each time, every time. Even my EVDO service worked. I had people standing around me at summer camp, during a nasty storm watching realtime weax reports/radar on my Sanyo 7500 while others, yes including your recomended verizon were saying "boy, wish my service would work like that all the time..." So, baised on MY experience.. Verizon stinks. I hear horror stories about CS from T-mobile, Verizon, Cig...

Well sprint phones can't roam off of verizon's towers if they are in a market where verizon offers service. If sprint has better coverage their plans beat verizons so why is it that sprints gross adds pale in comparison, their customers service ratings are consistantly lower, and their churn levels are double? I don't even sell verizon I sell cingular I just think your argument has no base.

oh my lord. ha ha. you can roam on verizon if you are in a market that has Sprint. the thing that controls who you roam on is your phone's PRL. If sprint or verizon could not roam on ANYONE....then you would see just how good their service really is. Everyone likes different stuff. IF your service isn't working for you...then port to someone else. Its that simple. Why get on this site and tell someone how bad another service is. ??

wouldnt ur phone say "roaming" and i would suggest u switch to another carrier, i have never heard of anyone going thru that, can you explain more about that and to note sprint has a rule in their terms and conditions, if you spend more than 50% of you time talking on another tower instead of sprints, they have the right to terminate your contract but i think most carriers have a similar statement

Sep 8, 2006, 1:28 PM
i agree. most carriers that have roaming agreements and pay for your roaming say they can terminate service if a certain percent is used there unless you pay for roaming. and sprint has alot of roaming. so good luck on with this provider.

All of the major carriers include that clause in the T&C. You might want to research which carrier has the best native coverage in your area (most likely VZW) and go with them...

check which company has the best coverage in your place and sign up - i think sprint offers 30-day risk-free guarantee which means that you will have 30 days to try their service and if you decide to discontinue within 30 days you will not be liable for termination and activation fees - check it out.

It's funny all these people claim Sprint's network sucks. From what I've been told and read, Sprint's network is actually the best there is. Voice and Data.

That's how this site works. Everyone has their favorite carrier and then uses these forums to bash every other carrier. It's a never ending cycle.

As far as the Cingular severing ties thing, I brought this up a few months back. I know every carrier has these clauses, but I think Cingular might be cleaning house, at least in our area. We never had customers coming into our stores talking about it, and for the past few months we've seen a few each week.

As far as your new phone goes, do some research and ask around and see what network is the most reliable in your home area. Try them first...if you don't like them after a few weeks try another.

Well, as for what you have read, you might also want to read this: Sprint sued Cingular for several of their claims, Cingular in turn counter-sued Sprint (for their "Most Powerful Network" claim), and Sprint lost big time.

Sprint is no longer allowed to claim the "Most Powerful Network" because it simply is not true.

Telephia actually said that in the areas where T-Mo had coverage, they had fewer dropped calls than Cingular. Unfortunately, since Cingular bought AT&T which MASSIVELY increased their coverage, Cingular was available in more markets than T-Mo, beating them by default. FACT. 😛 😉

Actually sprint tried to sue cingular. Cingular counter sued sprint and won the right to claim fewest dropped calls and fastest nationwide data. At the same time also made it so sprint couldn't claim nations most powerful network.

i heard sprint offers a plan wherein you can treat your roaming minutes as normal minutes. they have 30 day trial period so check them out. But make sure you get the phone from the sprint store and not on 3rd party retailer, bec retailers have their own store policy like when you return the phone thre's a restockable fee of $50 and sprint is not responsible for that. hope this helps.

Yes, most companies have that, however there is also a condition that more than HALF the roaming minutes MUST be used with your carrier. That is the issue that is occurring now.

Better check first for Sprint plans being offered in your area. Sprint now came up with better plans that include roaming (meaning you are making/receiving calls in an area that is not covered by your current carrier's coverage, so you would need to utilize other providers' signal so you could continue with the call). What happens is that instead of you being charged $0.50 per minute of roaming calls (which Sprint is doing if you still have their old plans), those roaming minutes will just be considered an ordinary voice call, so basically would just consume your plan minutes. Pretty cool, right? 😉 😉 Just be smart on your choices guys!! 😎 😎

What you just stated is nothing new or groundbreaking. All that major carriers offer "free" roaming that is considered normal "anytime" airtime.

The 50% rule still applys. In fact, the 50% rule was created for that very reason of protecting the carrier's from roaming costs. When roaming is "free," the carrier takes the hit.

Nothing you just said is relevent to his problem.

it still goes down to which carrier provides the best coverage in your local area - just dont get yourself involved with the complexity of wireless nature - i know most of us just wanted to have simple plan, best coverage and cheaper monthly bill - the rest would be just luxury 😎

where do you live first of all that would help alot... but until then if there is sprint in ur area go with them i was a happy sprint costumer for 3 years and never had any problems always had good coverage the only reason i switched was that they dont have coverage in my area and i couldnt afford a cell phone anyway. as far as verizon goes i really dont like them thats my opinion and i dont think they get good coverage at all atleast not where i live (iowa)

Well I live in Northeast WI 45 minutes or so to Green Bay. I did sign with Verizon today still trying to decide if it was the right move. I was also looking at Sprint home usage maps and Verizon and Verizon seems to have more and since I travel a lot I thought maybe Verizon. I got the Samsung 930 phone but I get 1-2 bars, reception just okay and can not access the internet. The phone feels kind of cheap to almost toy like and when closing has funny noise. I like the fuctions though. The way I see it I may be screwed with either company for usage with one company when I am at home ( Verizon-says extended network on phone), but saved when I do my shopping in GB and travel or Sprint saved by home usage but may be screwed by travel. What a pain ...

Its definitely worth trying out. Sprint's plans are really good right now, and if it doesn't work you have 30 days.

If you have any specific questions, let me know, I should be able to answer them.
