...Just joined Sprint and have a couple of questions. Thx.

1. My plan says, "AMERICA - Roaming Included".

I, um, assume this means I can roam in the States for FREE ? Why, then, when I am roaming and attempt to make a call does my Katana say, "Roaming rates apply, press [1] to continue." Is that just a canned feature of the Katana when roaming or did someone not set the "Roaming Included" switch at headquarters ?

2. My plan says, " Unlimited email and instant messaging - AOL, MSN and Yahoo".

When I attempt to access instant messaging, I get a notice that states it is a $2.99 per month feature. The best answer I got after three separate calls to three different Sprint CSR's was that while I have "free" access to instant mess...

Roaming: The phone will say that because that's how all the phones are set up. Not all plans include roaming so they do that to remind people they are roaming. You can make it stop by turning the call guard off on your phone--- under settings, others, roaming, call guard. The instant messaging thing I'm not sure about because I don't use it. Sorry.

A. Sprint CDMA handsets have the Roam Guard feature on by default. Some older wireless plans of theirs did not include roaming so this handset feature is a reminder to the customer that roaming charged and long distance may apply in a roaming coverage area before the customer makes or receives a call. If you're Sprint plan includes off network roaming, just go into the Katana's menu under settings, then roaming and turn off the Roam Guard feature.
B. If you have one of the Power Vision packages, the IM service is free when you access it via the Power Vision home page. From the home page, go Messaging, Instant Messaging and then log into your IM account. The $2.99/month subscription is if you download the IM application and send IM like a te...

First, thank you nodeposit and raycarroll for your responses. Couple of follow-up questions:

a) I notice, raycarroll, that you specifically refer to "off network roaming". As opposed to... ??? Is there an "in-network roaming" ? If so, how do I know if both are covered when the plan simply refers to "America-Roaming included" ?

b) I do have a Power Vision package. But, if I read the plan correctly, it is a function of the phone. Is the Katana a Power Vision phone ? If so, how do I access the Power Vision webpage ?

Thx.

A. When I say off network roaming, I was refererring to when you leave the Sprint CDMA network on to one like Alltel Wireless', Verizon Wireless' or another CDMA wireless carrier. There isn't any in network roaming since you would already be on Sprint's network.

B. The Sanyo Katana/6600 isn't an EVDO handset so you're using the Sprint 1xRTT network. You should only be charged $15.00 for their Vision Pack. To get to the Vision home page, just access the internet via the Katana. The default page is the home one.
