I would actually watch T-mobile in the future because after getting some nice 10 MHz and 20MHz of spectrum they will launch HSDPA that will destroy VZW, but not Sprint because Sprint will be doing Wimax.

Now isn't cingular just busting out their 3g correct?, and are they not moving onto HSDPA or do i have this totally wrong? If im not wrong how will HSDPA be faster than verizon? Someone break this down for me please. thanks

I was just saying that they got ample of spectrum in key markets to deploy their UMTS/HSDPA network in those areas. In addition, they can role it out in others if they are able to get additional roaming agreements with 3g licenses or other means. There is also another auction later on so if they feel like the spectrum portfolio they have now is not enough they would purchase more.

Yes, Cingular is going to do UMTS/HSDPA. Well, on paper, HSDPA is faster than DO REV A, but not sure in the real world. Therefore, anyone who has DO would/should be in trouble unless they already have a good position in the data market. Verizon does not have that and they do not have a plan to counteract HSDPA. Wait until HSUPA will be out Cingular and T-Mobile...

Thank you I understand now, but HSDPA still won't be faster than 4g will it?

In some circumstances with the right spectrum efficiencies, it might, but I highly doubt it.

It could be--but that's highly dependent on what 4G technology you're comparing it to.

HSDPA/HSUPA is capable of speeds up to 14.1 mbps (in remote testing). With MIMO technology and future software upgrades these speeds could easily be multiplied many times. HSDPA/HSUPA is really considered to be a 3.5G technology and with the proper implemenation it could very well be categorized as a 4G technology one day.

It's really just a guessing game as of now.

HSDPA is roughly the same speeds as EVDO(sprint, verizon), hsdpa burst speeds are a lil higher plus it has voice and data capability which can free up tons of spectrum

and cingy still did not release hsdpa in my area, detroit, and im sick of waiting, i want 3g service, but then again i want tmo's 3g service and im gonna have to wait a lil longer. so ill just be patient
