I never saw this phone listed on Sprint.com before today. Really upsets me to. It's a kick ass phone, I really wanted it.
As for your question, I'm not too sure.

The Samsung A960 from my understanding isn't currently being offered in the direct retail channel and only in the indirect channel at places such as Best Buy and Radio.

Yeah, that's the only place I was able to find it. But it's listed on sprint.com now in the "Clearance Center".

To answer the question, motion detection is the same feature as was on the A940... if you shake the phone it knows... it's kinda silly. On the 940 it had dice and a lottery number picker, when you shook the phone the dice rolled or it shook the balls in the lottery thingy... the cool part was the beat box, you could choose different sounds and when you shook the phone it played the sounds, the faster you shook it the more beats, the slower the fewer etc... was pretty pointless, but kinda cool! I don't know if the 960's motion features are the same, but I would assume they are the same or at least very similar.

The motion detection of the Samsung A960 is for use with 3 games that come preinstalled(Dice Game, Random Ball, and Beat Box) which rely upon the phone being shaken and/or tapped.
