Mr Seybold, an earlier answer you posted seems quite negative on WiMax. With all the investment behind it from Intel, Samsung, Sprint, Motorola etc... what are your expectations for WiMax. Thanks

Andy Seybold: Roy, I am not "negative" on WiMAX it is just not the jump in technology that the companies trying to promote it pretend that it is. It is comparabile with today's fully mobile EV-DO and UMTS systems when it is compared on a like for like spectrum basis. There is a place for WiMAX but it is NOT a 4G or existing Wireless killer, it is another wireless technology that has a place in the world, again, I keep saying, voice pays the bills in wireless, voice pays the bills, data is more expensive to deliver and remember that a full...

Do you happen to have the URL because I would like to see the context of the article?

I actually think HSDPA/HSUPA and other technologies out there are all hype until they actually bring it to the real world marketplace, however, with that said I think that WIMAX is the true 4G network because you can do a lot more things with WIMAX than with HSDPA/HSUPA.

There are so many limitations with HSDPA and with EV-DO but there arenโ€™t with Wimax but more importantly you can target everyone with Wimax because it is harder to target everyone with HSDPA and EV-DO because it costs money plus lack of coverage, and capacity issues.

There seems to be a lot of spectrum efficiency and capacity efficiency with Wimax than with HSDPA and EV-DO, which...

Wimax is extremely versatile and i think there will be a large amount of applications for wimax such as true wireless internet, SAY GOODBYE TO CABLE AND DSL!, it could probably deliver tv channels or other things, i found a good article on wimax on howstuffworks.com, im not really doing that much research on wimax yet, i hope there will be a competing standard if not, maybe the wireless industry will start to mirror Europe's where GSM and gsm based technologies are the only standard.

I agree 100%.

Perhaps Fixed Wimax will not be that big of a market but Mobile Wimax will be.

There are still some handoff issues and others, but in a few years, I think those problems will be gone or minimized especially when you have Intel and the like working on this very interesting technology.

well, I am an analyst too but the majority of our releases are based on projected and past trends with educated guesses so yea. That is why sometimes my numbers our off on some metrics but on others they are very close to being accurate.
