New Insurance Program

Effective October 1, 2004 sprint will be changing the deductible for the Equipment Replacement Program from $35 to $50, it is suppose to me some new Enhanced Warranty Program.

Would anyone know what the major change is in the new program, that is making the deductible increase by $15....?

What I never understood is, they're served by the same company - Asurion (at least in the Gulf Coast Wireless area - LA & MS).

okay i found out today at work that though the deductible is MORE, they will not be covering water damage and some other things... that basically it would cover what warranty would, except extend it past one year. WTF!?! is this true? if so i think it's terrible and i am not going ot push my clients to get erp when it's $48 a year on the plan with a new $50 deductible when you want to use it, and doesn't even cover water damage. that's a bunch of bullshit. 👿

I have to agree there...if that is the new program...I as well will not be pushing customers to get the program....that's a rip off...Sounds like it's worse, I like the program that we have now better than this

And I may be reading my paper wrong but if I am correct I think with the new program. All Sprint Phones come with a 1 year Warranty, that covers "defects, electrical failure, etc...with the new one even in that one year the deductible is $10 cause the new program no longer covers that..... 👿

Yeah I just re-read it and with the 1 year warranty that comes with each phone if there is a defect, or electrical failure, that is not our fault but the manufactures fault we just take it to a sprint store and they will give us another one. As of Oct 1, every phone purchased will have that 1 year warranty BUT if there is a manufacture defect or electrical failure in the phone you will have to pay $10 for another one....BS,, they shouldn't charge us for the phone being defective......

😳 ohhhh my god... they are not making my job any easier. i get people in with like, 3rd and 4th replacements... people are going to be f*cking LIVID... myself included. this is ridiculous. it makes the word warranty seem like a joke... if you have to PAY for a warranty to work, what the hell is it there for? THEY ARE GAY and now i'm pissed 👿

Right...it's very stupid...It's like they just want all the $$money$$ they can possibly get from us customers...Cause I can say honestly i am not paying for not a replacement especially if I didn't do anything to the phone...To me that is not a real warranty

Sounds to me like they are trying to make up for losses. Could be they have had quite a bit of fraud, and are trying to make up the loss.

Either that, or they're losing money somewhere else, and this is an easy way to tack on an extra charge.

Either way, it's NOT a great way to do it. You're right, people are gonna go 'cellular' over this.

ok i think there is a lot of misinformation that is going around about the sprint warentee replacement.

it seams that in this thread you have confused the dhrp process with the extended warentee you can buy and also with the erp

you will not have to pay for sprint to replace the phone under warentee. i know this as a fact i probubly deal with over 25 warentee issues a day alone.

the extended warentee that sprint WAS selling had a 10$ deductable and lasted three years

erp IS 4$ a month and the deductable has increased to 50$ the reason it increased was because lockline raised it to be the same as all the other deductables the other carriers were replaceing. now lets do some math the average life for a phone is 18 months that is a...

now lets do some math the average life for a phone is 18 months that is aproximately 72$ add the 50$ that that brings the total to 172$ and no contract. and that is if it is not lost damaged or stolen. whith the average price for a sprint phone being 250-300$ tell me why would you not sell the erp to every customer?

I have a family plan w/ 3 phones (Samsung N400) purchased from Costco in Jun 2003 and my contract and warranties ended in Jun 2004. One of the phones just died and I do not have the ERP. I'm not really sure why I'd even want it. Costco has a one year return policy so I had two options for potentially defective phones within that year -- take advantage of a phone swap through Spr...

I wasn't dissing the insurance, just Sprint's socalled 'enhanced' version.

Our lock/line plan does not have those restrictions.

Possibly, but it seems what is being dicussed here is a relatively new development Steve. If you read back over the posts, it seems they are just getting info on this.

This is what I was addressing.

As for water damage, its easy to spot. In some cases an insurance claim will NOT cover water damage, and will bill for the replacement phone. I have never seen this be the case with lock/line, but I have with Asurion.

erp = insurance, which is now going to be $50 deductible and will not cover water damage, according to my manager...

dhrp = warranty issue. New $10 dhrp. It's free now, but won't be I believe Oct. 1. I could be wrong on the date.

i know the difference; warranty is not the same as insurance... which is exactly why the new insurance being implemented should not be provisioned such that it is, in effect, nothing more than a crappy (at best) extended warranty.

I wish I had a way to post but they sent me a 10 Page Letter explaining the new program and what I said earlier I stand by fully about the $10 deductible for Warranty and $50 for replacement due to lost, theft, etc...I would not mis inform you guys in any way..If I wasn't sure I would just not say anything...but I am sure.....

I can put this on here and it's directly from the paper, it reads "Your new enhanced warranty program service contract covers losses due to mechanical and electrical failure from defect as well as normal wear and tear, both during and after expiration on the manufacturer's warranty. Replacements made under Enhanced Warranty Service Contract will only require a $10 processing fee and no other deductible will apply."

So they are charging you $10 to process the warranty replacement.....

Here it was their website says.. explainss both The Enhanced Warranty, And the Insurance.

Will my deductible change?
Replacements made under the Enhanced Warranty Service Contract, which covers mechanical and electrical failure from defect and normal wear and tear, will only require a $10 processing fee to complete the replacement request. NO OTHER DEDUCTIBLE APPLIES.
Replacements made under the Equipment Replacement Program, which covers losses as a result of lost equipment, theft, water and accidental damage, will require a $50 deductible to complete the replacement request.

To clear up the confusion, here is a summary of the changes that are coming:

Current insurance customers are automatically enrolled in the Total Equipment Protection (TEP) which keeps the premium of $4 per month until 1/1/05, when it goes up to $5 (either way this is $1 cheaper than ERP and EWP purchased separately). TEP is a combination of the Equipment Replacement Program (ERP), which is currently the insurance, and of the Enhanced Warranty Protection (EWP).

ERP will no longer cover mechanical or electrical problems with the phone (it currently covers them only after the manufacturer's warranty). It will still cover everything else it currently does, including water damage. The deductible for insurance replacements is going up to ...

no matter what any of the sprint reps tell you guys. this is it.
you pay 4/mo right now and the ded. is 35. if you have your phone less than a year purchased from an actual sprint store, and you have mechanical, electrical problems with no physical or water dmg, then you get it replaced at no cost at a sprint store or thru cust/sol at no cost. if damaged(physical or liq.), lost or stolen, then you call lockline and go thru the INSURANCE (key word people) to get it replaced for 35. If a store refuses warranty replacement then lockline will still replace it under the insurance if you are willing to pay the deductible. (CURRENTLY)

(NEW)
if you are currently paying for the erp, then as of oct. 1st you will automatically be upgraded to...
