No internal communications
It is important for people to know what plans and new phones/policies are coming out.

Does it harm the company, hardly. When att was first rumored to be the carrier for the iphone, the stock moved north. Key is "first rumored, NOT confirmed."

Ummmm...not it wouldn't. Clearly you also lack the understanding regarding a buildup of excitement for release dates and other "insider" information.
Let's say store rep A says "oh yeah, we'll be getting such and such phone soon". And then once the phone goes through testing, it is determined that the phone will not be released. OOPS, phone actually isn't being released, sorry!
Let's say store rep B says "oh we're going to get the ROKR anytime now". Then the customer calls in to customer service and asks us about it - and we explain to them the reasons we do not release information about upcoming phones or phones that are in testing.
