as with most cell phones nearing the 2 year mark mine is dying and in need of the good ol re-contract and phone upgrade.

I have had US Cellular for over 10 years, not because of good customer service as the ads might claim but because it really is the only carrier to have signal in my area of the boonies behind the backwoods. I travel Iowa extensively for work and most often the rural areas NOT right along the interstate, so this seems to be the company I will continue to be stuck with for now.

I have given up the dream that USC will ever offer a new original cool phone and instead offers the leftovers of the major carriers. It becomes tiresome to walk into a store having done research ahead of time only to find that they do not have...

USCC needs new phones

right now they have what they are going to offer in terms of QWERTY keyboards. Apparently the HTC Touch will be coming out soon (by the end of july) but it does not have a QWERTY keyboard. Your best bet is the HTC PPC6800 (HTC Mogul) or whatever that one is, because it is a better all-around phone than the LG ux380 (LG scoop). But with the PPC6800, you will need data and web access plan, whereas with the UX380, you don't. I don't know your job situation, but you could get your work email and whatnot on the PPC6800. You should get it now, but i have heard that maybe the LG Voyager was coming to USCC, but the person at the store could have been mistaken for the LG Glimmer. So I am not 100% sure, but I would get it now.

I feel the sa...

I'm sorry, i completely forgot all about the Blackberries. my bad. I like the BB Curve, and the 8830! I just thought that the HTC PPC6800 was kind of "cooler" because it has touchscreen and slide out. But so, the LG UX380, the HTC PPC6800, the BB Curve and the BB 8830 are your different selections

and the Moto Q, both of them... I am really sorry, I just woke up from a nap and I am forgetting phones...So the Moto Q and the Q9 are your other ones to choose from. But I don't like Motorola, so that is why I forgot 😳 . All of the QWERTY phones except the LG UX830 require data and web access plans

what is up with the access plans? if wifi is free somewhere it should be free period, in considering a smart phone from USC I almost lean toward skipping it to avoid being raped on bogus greedy charges. Can you even get on the real internet or are you still limited to easy edge? and if you can get on the real internet wifi is FREE hence I will prob just use my laptop for email and my phone for calls and texting so as not to spend more unnecessary money with USC, who is just trying to make money for something they don't even technically provide. The guy in a store I talked to said the access plan is mandatory if the phone has the ability, they are not providing anything at all just charging you for choosing a smart phone essentially!! Thi...

while wifi is a nice thing, it can only be used in a wifi zone, thus making the data and web access plans better because you can get internet in the middle of nowhere as long as you have service. I do agree, wifi is cool because it is free, but its not cool when you need the internet and you aren't near a wifi zone. You can also go on the regular internet using NWeb, or nweb (don't know the capitalization specifics) which is $5 more on top of the unlimited easy edge plan which i think is $10. so for $15 you can use the "real" internet i think.

verizon does seem to be moving in but sadly does not reach into the nooks and crannies of the midwest that USC can so far. I did get my daughter a scoop and have already replaced it once due to software meltdown and have had the second one in for an upgrade and repairs so definitely not even considering it for myself.

Is the HTC the one with the side slide out QWERTY? I did like it until they showed me the stylus, If it were touch screen alone I might have been more enthusiastic but a stylus adds hassle.

yea, the scoop isn't a "fantastically wonderful phone", and yes the HTC does have a slide out keyboard which can be nice because then you can use it when you want. i believe that you don't need to use the stylus, but don't quote me on that. They just used it because it works better than your fingers - but go back and ask them to get a real one for you to use and not the stupid demo. and use your fingers to see if it works. HTC are supposed to be good phones as well as BlackBerries!

honestly, i love going into the stores and asking them if i can see the real phones just for the kick of them having to get a new one out of the box and turning it on infront of me. I also like to call the USCC people and ask them about when new phones are...

To clear up the confusion about access plans: they are only required on smartphones (Blackberry, Moto Q, and HTC models). The pricing is $24.95/mo unlimited INTERNET/email (not EasyEdge or nweb) for models running off of Windows Mobile and a choice of $24.95/mo for 4MB of usage or $39.95/mo for unlimited internet/email on the Blackberry models. The reason behind this is to ensure customers are getting the right phone for their needs. Honestly, if you don't need the data access, you don't really need a smartphone.

And while you sit there thinking of ways to waste associates' time, there are other customers with real problems that you are making wait.
