At this time there is no update planned for the HTC 6800.

I believe the reason is since this phone has been out for some time with other carriers that an update to Windows 6.1 is not being supported by the manufacturer HTC.

This should have been added above....

US Cellular does not support an update at this time to Windows 6.1, but it is possible with some know how.

NOTE: DOING AN UPGRADE TO THE HTC PPC6800 WITH THIS INFORMATION IS NOT SUPPORT BY US CELLULAR AND MAY VOID THE WARRANTY FROM HTC. MAKING A MISTAKE WHILE DOING THIS MODIFICATION CAN GIVE YOU A $600 PAPER WEIGHT.

It is possible to hack the boot rom on the 6800 and upload a custom made one with an updated version of windows. I own the 6800 and have done so myself.

http://www.ppcgeeks.com/ » is a great resource if your looking for help on this subject, but I warn you DO NOT try this if your not comfortable hacking the device and possibly bricking it if you mess up.

What were to happen if someone needed to make a claim or send the phone in for repair if it has a custom ROM installed?

Thats one of the risks, I dont tell my customers about this and I do not recommend doing it.

I would guess (not know) that it would not effect an insurance claim as long as the claim itself has nothing to do with the modification.

I'm pretty sure this does void the warranty from HTC and is just one of the pros and cons of this mod.

Back in the day I was a big over-clocker with computers. For those of you who have no clue what that is...its modifying a computers internal parts to push the speed above and beyond its intended settings.

Just like the above situation, over-clocking voids all warranties but its all about pushing the computer as fast as you can and in many scenarios the parts I worked...

I think we need to contact US Cellular and pressure them to get with HTC and release an update for the 6800. if you have a 6800 call customer service and complain about there not being an update. I did. Thank You.

Joey what about 6.1 are you needing so badly. Are you wanting just because it is the latest s/w or will it allow you to have added functionality that you really need. Do you know what added abilities you would have with 6.1?

You paid full price so you think you should get an update....?

That is about the dumbest reason I've ever heard for why a carrier should include an update to a phone. They don't owe you anything. You wanted a PPC6800, you knew what it came with, you purchased it and you activated it. After that they don't owe you anything other than keeping your service going as long as you pay your bill.

When you bought your computer and it came with Windows XP did you automatically think Microsoft owed you an update to Vista? Try calling Microsoft for that one and see how long it takes before you hear a click and dial tone after asking that question...

The PPC6900 "Touch" compared to the PPC6800 "Mogul" are very different in terms of hardware and how the phone is electronically built.

Yes the PPC6800 "Mogul" has an upgrade with Sprint which is also a CDMA carrier like US Cellular, but this version was built with Sprint's specs in mind. For this reason it cannot be used with US Cellulars model without some modification.

HTC does not want to support making new software for this device because the device is too old. We carry the device, we DO NOT program the software or manufacture the hardware.

On a personal side note...most reps giggle on the inside when a customers "threatens" going to another carrier. Throwing this "threat" doesn't work most of the time. I v...

Well I have told US Cellular and an other carrier i used to have i was going to switch and it did make a difference. but oh well if they don't update it I won't buy another smartphone from USC. We have AT&T and we just got Verizon. I hear Verizon is the best. I might just have to test them out. I know they have a lot more phones then USC does. I like being with the smaller company but I don't know yet. My Contract is up so i will have to think about it. Thanks for the input.
