god im glad the U.S. hasnt adopted this system yet.
Canadian Carriers Off 3 year contracts and the discount on the phone breaks down like this..
no contract or 1 year- NO DISCOUNT on handset
2 year contract- 25-50 Discount off handset
3- gets full discount on phone. i was looking at a blackberry on the rogers wireless site and its 549.99 full price, with 3 year contract u get it for roughly 200.

I wouldn't be surprised to see carriers in the USA adopt this type of strategy in the near future.
Companies just aren't making similiar profit in the same amount of time as they used to (whether it's lower prices or involuntary churn).
We will wait and see.
