Conflicts
In the past few weeks, I've spoken to several CSR's both in the store and on the phone and I've been told conflicting stories.
I have 3 lines on my account, all with different contract expiration dates. One line expires in December, one next June and the last next August. I was told cancelled contracts within 4 months of expiration would not incur an ETF, cancelled contracts within 6 months would not incur the ETF and that cancelled contracts regardless of when it was done would always incur the ETF.
Who do I believe? Any advice would be highly appreciated...thanks in advance!

It depends on several things, but I'll try and play out all likely options here:
1st: If you are looking to cancel and leave US Cellular, you will always incur the EFT.
2nd: In most markets, once you've completed 20 months of your contract, you are elligible to renew your contract and get new equipment.
3rd: In a few markets, you only need complete 18 months of your contract to be elligible to renew.

What I think I was looking for is advice on how to proceed when I've been told conflicting things by various people. Who has the final say? If I base a decision (ie porting a phone to a different carrier) on what one person says, but then later that person turns out to be wrong, should I be penalized by the misinformation?
I guess I'm just mildly confused 😕

If u cancel by porting the Early Term Fee will always apply, no matter how early before the contract expiration date

Its simple. If you are terminating your contract early for any reason (aka leaving US Cellular) you pay the EFT. Nothing anyone says can change that.
The other two options are for those times when you want to stay with US Cellular, but get new equipment.

I would speak with cs coach or a supervisor from here on out. That way there is no more miscommuncations! Sorry that you were given the run-around!

Your contract is the best place to start. Each line of service carries it's own contract due to the subsidized equipment pricing. USCC is one of the only carriers, if not the only one, who let's their customers renew service once they have fulfilled approximately 80% of their contracts. In some regions, it's less! This is only for renewals. If cancelling, porting out and going with another carrier even 1 month short of the current contract time, the $150 early term fee would stand. Definately, read the contract in the future. NEVER leave the office without clarifying it. USCC sticks to the contract, most of the time regardless of what the customer was advised at point of sale. I agree...with the previous poster... if you have doubt speak ...

One good way to prove that you were told something would be to make sure the CSR memo's the account. CSRs should be adding memos anytime they speak to a customer on any issue, but it doesn't hurt to say, "can you note the account on what we just discussed?"

All contracts are charged the ETF if they are cancelled early. you can RENEW contracts 4 (or 6) months early, depending on your market

Depending on location and date of the contract time, you can get out of a contract w/out paying the whole ETF. I know in Iowa market if a contract was signed before Aug of 04, USCC must prorate the ETF.

Each phone has its own contract if you had a 12 mo. contract you're eligible for an early upgrade at 10 months unless you have been suspended for non pay that time on susp. is added in, and 24 mo. cont. can be upgraded at 20mo. but to cancel on any contract and avoid the $150. ETF you need to be at the final end date of the 12 or 24 month contract. When asking about your cont. dates make sure you're asking when you can cancel without the ETF, otherwise most will tell you when you are eligible to upgrade, if you port and you number is still in contract you will pay the ETF no matter what.
