Upgrade Question

boredorangerep

I have a relative using USCC and she upgraded her phones at 80% in July '04. She called the local retail store where she completed the upgrades to see where she stood in the contract. They informed her that she under contract through Nov '06. She was told that she had the balance of her original committment plus an additional 2 years.

Is this correct? Does USCC complete one contract and then start a new one? At Cingular the new committment starts at upgrade so this seemed a bit strange to me.

Thanks for any info.

As far as I am aware, when you upgrade your contract is when the contract starts.

Okay, I was wrong. That is not correct. You would not only have the remainder of your contract but have the new 24 month contract to complete as well.

Grrrr. I got more info from someone else.

According to other info I rec'vd, you do not extend the contract. just the new contract

I promise this is the last time I will right now

EX-USCC EMPLOYEE

Well, I worked in retention at uscc until about 6 weeks ago when I moved. Until may, june, or july of 2005....(I'm not sure exactly when, but I know for sure in 2004 that the contract was EXTENDED, meaning she would have the remainding contract term added on to the new one. But, USCC changed that policy and the new contract is from the date of the renewal. You can always call customer service and threaten to cancel. If you have been a good customer, customer relations should work with you.

At the that time in 04, you resigned a 24 month contract but you also had to finish out the rest of the orginal contract making a 28 month contract if doing it at 80%. So when she's completed 80% of her 28 month agreement, approx 24 mnths, she can resign again. The rules have since changed and you now only sign 24 mnth agreements. Tell your realitive to check the contract they signed and if it says 24 months, USCC will allow them to upgrade at 20 months. I know that's a lot to think of, just ask questions and I try better to explain.

That WAS the case. USCC used to make you sign a 28-month contract if you signed up 4 months early, et etc. Now, at least in some markets, you are eligible to renew you...
