Using unlocked phones

I would like to know if anybody has any idea if we can use unlocked phones on our network. I know that companies like TMobile and Cingular can use unlocked phones. But how would it work on our network since 1) We don't use sim cards. 2) We are cdma (don't know if that has anything to do with it though) 3) I don't know if verizon can use unlocked phones. If anybody can shed some light on this let me know.

uscc employees are told to only activate USCC branded phones, which is a policy all other carriers have, but is a BS policy because the insurance company will give people "non-branded" phones all the time, Most CDMA phones will work on our network, but i have never tried a sprint phone, for sure alltel and verizon phones work flawlessly on our service, you will just not get the internet services and i would watch the behavior of your phone, because although tower preferences are illegal some may still have it.

I was wondering because I've always been into unlocked phones, mainly because it increases the possiblities of what phone you can get. A lot of people that I've been friends with or done business with in the past have used unlocked phones. Know that I work for a cell company I wanted to know if I can bring them on and let them still have the freedom that unlocked phones bring. Plus I've seen a lot of phones I like and I don't used Internet on my phone anyway (data cable is better to put things on your phone). Anyway that's what I thought, I figured we probalbly could. I'll just have to do a trial run.

Verizon Wireless doesn't allow non-Verizon on their network. They want phones with the software that Verizon uses. Also the PRL's don't always take on non-Verizon phones. As for someone who said that he/she never tried a Sprint phone. Some Sprint phones only have the PCS band and maybe analog backup, and that does no one on US Cellular any good, when most of US Cellular's coverage is in the cellular band. Chicago is a PCS only market, and US Cellular will be adding Indianapolis to their coverage in the near future, and they will only operate in the PCS band. Milwaukee & Green Bay I believe are cellular band only for them. I'm not for sure.

yes all companies have policies against it, and i have not ever activated a sprint phone, but there has never been a need to. I would definately never activate a phone that would not work on our network and everyone who works for sprint verizon and alltel know the difference between our networks and sprints.

I have done it as an experiement with many diffferent phones.

Mainly, besides it being against policy and not good advertising, its silly and not a good idea. Most phones built for other networks just DONT perform as well as phones specifically built for us. I have seen phones activate but search for signal half the time.

Verizon is one that is very similiar and i havent seen many verizon phones do bad but i would steer away from it all together.

Customers will think our service sucks when really its just that the phone that they have isnt working well because its not geared for our network.

Signal Insurance sends out refurbished phones that are made for different carriers all the time, and a lot that are just generic with no branding. I had a customer that recieved a LG 6000 once, the outside said us cellular, and above the inside display it said verizon.

Ive Had Several Phones From Metro PCS and Alltel
(LG 5450, Audiovox 8900, Kyocera Slider, All Flashed And Activated On Verizon With No Problems
Even phones that werent flashed yet and still said metro or whatever were activated and worked fine
Dunno Who said it wont or wouldnt work but it does and I still do it with phones from those carriers

I would Assume Calling US Cellular And Saying I have a phone I want to activate and giving them the ESN to a Say.... LG 8100 that isnt in the US Cellular Systems yet they will ask you what kind of phone it is Lie and say a 6100 or something and they would activate it
Only Assuming here since I mainly do Verizon activations
but Ive always wondered how you guys took care of things

I would love to try and do it but I don't have naybody looking to try it right now. I can figure it out, it shouldn't be that hard as long as its a good esn and it's a cdma phone. I know we can add phones to our inventory so we should be able to add the unlocked phone just like if someone had a used us cellular phone. It should work fine but I just haven't tried it. So anybody interested let me know.

That's funny b/c your name implies that you are using eroes and every time i have attempted to activate any ph other than one branded Vzw in eroes I get an error message that WILL NOT allow me to bypass in anyway! I've tryed Virgin mobile, Sprint, alltel, Uscc, cricket and no luck so what are you doing differently?????? 😕 😕 😕 😕

Ok, Now my curiousity has grown. Csr's use eroes and i2k if I cannot do it in eroes how can they? Also, the system should show them that it's not a Vzw ph. I'm really not trying to be a jerk but I'm not sure I'm buying what your selling. Of course the next chance I get I will most certainly try it. Also, anytime I call COOS they ask for my sales force and outlet id #'s, my guess is that they are noting the acct with this info. so when I do this is it gonna come back to bite me in the ass???

Actually this was done a year ago I havent tried it lately
but in all honesty I dont see why there would be a problem
unless Verizon has gotten REALLY bi**** in the last 9 or so months I dont see why you couldnt accomplish it All my customers have been happy (they got the phones on ebay) except for the fact that their phones have a Metro PCS startup screen or alltel or whatever company they got the phones for next to nothing at the time (Personally I think the Alltel 5450 is ugly compared to the Verizon 6000 but her its opinion much like A**holes everyone has one right?

it also works changing the ESNs online just ask customer if they have an account online and password create one for them

My Main thing is trying to get a friend Wh...
