Will eBay phone work with USC?

Hi Everyone!

My Motorolla V266 is near death and I thought about purchasing a phone on eBay. Now I know with other services you can buy an unlocked phone and just put your SIM card in and it'll work. How would that work with USC? Does it even work?

Thanks for your help!

USCC doesn't use sim cards, so you can't just buy any phone on ebay. You need to buy a used phone that had once been activated with USCC before. Its the only one that will work. You might be able to get a better price on ebay, but if you buy "used" from an actual corporate or agent location, you will have a limited warranty on the equipment and you can also look the phone over before purchasing...its probably a better idea.

But also, depeding upon where you live and how much time you have remaining in your contract, you may be eligible for an early upgrade even though your contract might not be up for a few months. Stop by a store to check that out first. Yes, you would be resigning, but the phone deals are much better.

If the store you walk into for a used phone is anything like ours, enjoy the antique paper weight 😉

That's the problem. I went to a store before but all they had were the mentioned antique paper weights! Besides that I don't think I'm due for an early upgrade yet. I signed the contract last September. Although I have to say I don't mind the service. It's the best network service I've had so far. The phones just suck. 😢

That was the nice thing about T-Mobile, etc. When you got tired of your phone or needed a new one because your old one broke, all you had to do was get one on ebay (even new ones) and just put in your SIM. I guess I'll have to go back to them once my contract is up. I might even end up paying the ETF just to get out. Too bad...

Thanks for the help though.

Our customers here have had mixed results with eBay. The best results are from sellers who tell you that they originally signed with US Cellular. Don't buy a phone that is unlocked, it will work for a while (15 minutes to a few weeks depending) but when you hit a Verizon or Altell or whatever company used to have that phone's tower it will revert and it's really hard to get it back to US Cellular. (no matter what the seller tells you)

stop and see us in the Lincolnwood Town Center or Gurnee Mills. We've got used phones for all models in the current USCC lineup. The prices obviously vary a bit, but they are all pretty fair.

Most models we would need to get from our warehouse which would take a couple days to ship (at no cost to you) but if you're interested, we might be able to help you out.

They are all less than 30 days "used" and all preinspected before sale too so you don't need to worry about getting scammed by an ebayer. You can check it out for yourself too before you pay a dime.

sorry we don't have one in Schaumburg, although there are agents over there that might also.

Hold on....so even after admitting you have never had better service you are going to switch back to crappy coverage for a "cool" phone!
Boy you really aren't that bright are you?

In other words, you can't get a cool phone. Just go to EBAY and do a search for GAY phones and all the USCC phones will come up. 🤣 🤣
