Mystery Shops

Ok does anyone else think that this mystery shop stuff is getting way out of hand? I mean some doofus who probably doesn't even have a real job is going to tell me what I need to do to be a good sales rep??? Not only that but they are allowed to comment on personal things such as one's appearance and the stores appearance (I take offense to negative comments about my shop). Thats B.S. Besides, why would anyone even write such negative stuff as some of them people do unless it was truly a horrible experience to them which I highly doubt??? Some people are just so unhappy!

If you were unemployed and had to mystery shop to afford lunch, wouldn't you be unhappy?

I think mystery shoppers are a joke when done outside of the company. I think they are basically setting you up to fail. The "shopper" comes in only looking for the things you do wrong. I think if they really want to see how well we are doing our jobs they need to have someone from the inside who knows all about us cell and will focus on that and not some of the other bull **** that these "shoppers" focus on. As a manager half the shops I see come back are super contradicting like "I wasn't greeted within 3 seconds" but then later they will say "as soon as I came in employee x greeted me with a smile and a hand shake" um wtf? it can't be both either they did or they didn't. I have even seen some where the shopper made everything up and didn'...

On a recent Mystery Shop, one of my employees got a 92%. Not too shabby... until I looked at the comments. The shopper was interested in opening a checking account, and the associate was more than happy to help them with that. The shopper was also please to know that they could walk away with the title today. The comments looked like a mesh between a person shopping 4 or 5 different companies at once, none of them cell phone related. I agree, though, that they shop us specifically to make us fail. I have had shoppers come in and tell me specifically they don't want prepay. They want a contract, so I don't talk about prepay. Then they count me off for not talking about prepay...

I haven't had a USCC mystery shop, but we have had a RadioShack mystery shopper. I can usually spot 'em a mile away. We are after all in a very small town in a smallish county, so it's hard for anyone to get away with mystery shopping in the area more than once. Plus they always ask for things like navigation systems, ipods, high end cameras and such and we refuse to carry any of those things. When they ask why, we answer "RadioShack advertises these products for $20-$50 less than what they charged us for them, I can't afford to be in a business that sells products for less than I paid for them on a regular basis." I've only had 1 mystery shopper question me further, usually they walk out the door at that point. (What are they going to ...
