Free phones?

Has USCC ever given new or renewing customers free phones? Or will they ever? I know they do the penny phone thing, but at present that's only one phone in certain markets, and usually requires 90 day EE. I can't tell you how many sales I've lost b/c customers-especially renewing customers-want a free phone and I can't give it to them. EVERY other major company-VZW, Sprint, and Cingular-offers free phones. Granted, they don't offer some of the great features that USCC does in the calling plans, but they do offer free stuff, and let's face it, that's what people want. As a telesales agent, this really sucks and hurts my numbers, which in turn hurts my pocket. Anybody know, or is this just the way it is? ☚ī¸

All the free phones in our market are $49.95 with a $50 rebate. USCC has one. Free as in no money down at all is almost nonexistant. The industry is moving away from that.

No, they're completely and totally FREE, as in no rebates except instant. USCC needs to get with the program.

lets remember you pay for what you get.. MOST free phones are crap.. pay the extra and get a phone you will like for 20 months... just about every customer who received a free phone with activation or renewal is in the store a few months later cursing the cheap crap that i sold them... no i dint sell it to you i gave it to you.. shoulda got something you liked when you had the chance. but you went down the cheap road and got what you paid nothing for....

Amen, Brother! Plus, he's asking the people who have the least amount to do with pricing the phones to do something about it. Industry is going away from free phones, and there's nothing that reps, and agents can do about that.

its a good thing that they are going away from it and offering larger rebates on better phones.. remember the days of the 5550 for 29.95 and a 30 rebate??? look what happened to that. 80 back on the Razr @ 109.95 is a great deal and it encourages people go with a higher end phone, that they will be happy with for the 20+ months.. in the area I'm in they are one of the best preforming phones. other then its battery but its a hand off for excellent reception. we also have the sammy 850 for 19.95 or free with EE purchase for only one month. but the reception isn't on par with the Motorola's or Nokias.. and the 6019 for 20.00 is also a good deal even though it is a featureless phone it works well and will take a beating. once again you pay for w...

Our razr is 129.95 before rebates, and the krzr is 179.95 before rebates. You must be in a new market. I think OKC has them at those prices as well. We don't get those prices here.

I agree that custies should seriously consider better phones if they expect them to live for the 18 months they have to go before they can get a new phone.

I'm ordering extra RZR and Slvr batteries, since I've heard about the battery issues with both those phones. I didn't know the corporate stores were offering battery combo packs for those phones, or else I would have already had them.

yeah i have seen the combos... have no clue how to get them. good idea on the extra battery's. some of the Motorola bt50 battery's are garbage. I hear that corp has been getting battery's from the manufactures for replacments(could be false) while agents have to take it out of our pockets for a new one or send a battery out for repair?????most people arnt down with spending $$30-40 for a battery. sounds crazy to me to send a battery out for repair.

We were told that we have to send the whole phone in, not just the battery. On a 15 day, we can't doa the battery, we have to doa the whole phone, charger, everything. It doesn't make sense. It hasn't just been the bts, the 262 batteries are screwing up bigtime as well.

Thank God for the new Motorola charging port, and may it never crap out like the old ones did. In one year, I won't have to deal with them anymore. We'll have them all renewed out!

I'm a she 🙂 and as far as I can tell, the industry is not going away from free phones. As I said out of the Big 4 ALL of them are offering completely free (as in no money down) phones and all of them aren't crappy. I reiterate: USCC needs to get with the program if they want to stay competitive. I lose potential customers EVERY DAY because I can't give them a free phone. Especially families that want to upgrade but don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on new phon...

tell them to get a samsung its only $20 or the lg 5000 its only $40. 6019 $19.95. i cant stand people who don't want to spend anything on a phone . i know that when i got a home phone they dint give me a phone to go with it .. or when i bought cable TV i dint get my TV for free thats for sure. i would like to meet the dumba*s that came up with free phones. its ridiculous. only time it should be used is for retention otherwise you are setting an expectaion with the customer that you owe them something.

Well, like it or not, it's pretty much become an industry standard and expectation of the customer. BTW, the Nokia 6019 have been discontinued...and the samsung is differently priced in some markets.

I don't think thats true. more phones are higher priced with a decent sized rebate then there are free phones. to say the free phones are an industry standard isn't true, most phone only go free when they are being discontinued.
