i700 GPS???

The spec sheet on the Samsung site says the i700 has GPS capability. But the closest I see to an actual application seems to require extra hardware. What's the real story here? Doe sit have GPS or not? In other words, can I look at the phone and get my longitude/latitude, etc using some app?

Thanks!

It does not thave GPS such as that. What it was is a 911 GPS locator so 911 can find out where you are. Yes i know that would be simple to adapt to a regular GPS but unfortunatly it doesn't look like that has happened.

I used to think that the primary purpose of the GPS in the phones were for tracking, that is untill I read the file. When you dial 911 from your phone the GPS routes the call to the correct dispatch center based on where you are.

There is also location on that I am not very clear on, so I'm not going to answer it. I haven't met one person who can give me a clear answer on that

From what I have been told - may or may not be true - the 911 call is routed based upon the tower your phone connects through. The AGPS services will make it possible for the call center to locate the phone in an emergency.

Essentially, that's about the best answer one could give. Basically, the system uses software that performs cell site triangulation on your phone. Very sci-fi movie like.
