Verizon broadband - Express card
I have a new Dell and bought the verizon express card for wireless access (we already had 4 other phones, 2 Razrs, 1 chocolate & an LG so this made the 5th line).
I wanted to be able to share the card with my other laptop but no matter how I've configured it, it will not recognize the card. I DO NOT want to have to buy another card and pay an additional $60 a month. I've looked into a wireless router but the only one I find is for a PC wireless card.
Anyone have any solutions. This didn't solve all my problems since we are still 'fighting' over using one internet connection.
Guess I shoulda got the PC card after all but thought I'd stick with the newest technolo...

We just got Verizon broadband access mid December ;)
I don't know REALLY but don't want to get a wireless router and then it not work if I'm just missing something here.
I looked at getting a wireless router the Verizon card went into because I thought that MIGHT make a difference but the only one I find is for a PC card and not an express card.
hmmmm never thought about that it's worth a try.
I don't much think Dell is gonna help me get my old Gateway laptop access.
But by doing this you will only be able to be online with one at a time.
Or, do you wish to use the one express card as a means to provide internet access to both laptops at the same time?
Three, are you running windows vista?
Answer those questions and we can begin to solve the problem.
Are you primarly going to be using the computers at home or on the road?

Primarily at home.
If I take it on the road I can either take the OLD laptop and take my chances connecting at a hotspot or the new laptop and take my access with me via the Verizon express card.

Alright, lets clear the waters a bit. You have two laptops, both with express card slots. You have one laptop that currently uses the express card but you would like to physically move the card to the other laptop and use it there, as well?

1. Yes I have 2 laptops, one with an express card slot (the new one) and the other with the old PC card slot. I want to be able to get on the internet with both computers at sometimes the same time.
2. YES ;)

Option 1- You share the internet connection via the network connections tab on your laptop. This will require creating some sort of local area network between your two laptops. This can be done via a wired switch or an ad hoc wireless(802.11 a/b/g) network. I have not personally done it via the second one, so your mileage may vary.
Option 2- You grab yourself another air card and cry silently to yourself.
Option 3- Forget the aircard but continue crying.
Option 4- You may be able to use a wireless router in place of the ad hoc network, but something in my memory seems to think that the windows connection sharing won't let it work very well, if at all.

I won't grab another aircard there must be a way it just doesn't make sense otherwise.
I figured Vista was going to be a problem so I don't plan to install it at the present time. Wait for all the bugs and revisions to come out LOL
Under the Network connections folder, right click on your Verizon express card and choose properties. I think the option we want is on the second tab, but it might be the first. Anyway, there is an otion to share this connection with other computers, or something similarly worded. Click that. It effectively turns your host computer into a mini router that will share your connection with other systems on the lan.
When I've done this before with router based networks it's always shown shared folders/shared connections.
I'm gonna try it again this weekend. I spent 8 hours plus another 5 hours doing this same thing over and over again. Maybe I missed something.
2 -If so, how did you set it up? Assigned ip addresses, or simple file sharing via windows workgroup name?
3 -If you did the it via assigned addresses, choose obtain address automatically and make sure nothing is hard coded in the dns as well. Reboot systems, with the main coming on first.
4 -Otherwise, I'll have to think about it for awhile.
2. I did not assign IP addresses, just told the host computer to share the internet connection. Ya know it shows that it is coz the hand symbol is there. But not showing up on the old laptop.
Let see:
What ip address is the old computer reporting? It should be reporting something in the 192.x.x.x range. If it is doing 169.x.x.x then we know it isn't even paying attention.
Workgroup name, are they the same for both systems?
