When should you dial *228?

You should update your phone once a month or at least once every 3 months. And also when you travel to new destinations. It only takes a minute and makes sure you have the best signal possible when your traveling.

To update your roaming dial *228, and listen to the lady and when she gives you options, you pick option #2 to update your roaming cabability. Option 1 is for when you change your ESN on your account or if you buy a phone at a store and need to activate it for the first time.

We here usually activate the phones for the customer. But on the website is the capability of changing your ESN (11 digit # on back of phone, unless you have and LG phone, then you might have to call into customer ser...

The Hex doesn't need to be converted to the ESN because it is the ESN. There are two formats for the ESN--decimal or hexadecimal. You can type either one in on my acct

I believe you have to type the 11 digit ESN. I tried typing the Hex for my LG 6000 and it didn't work....hmmm.

I think you can do it either way if you're using VISION.

DP, if you're really worried about it, there's a hex-to-decimal converter in InfoCenter. You have to look for it, but it's there. It used to be on the front page, but it got moved sometime last year.

No I know where to find it on infocenter, I use it all the time. But Customers can't use it. That thread was for customers. Not agents or retail employees.

True. InfoCenter for agents, InfoManager for employees is a useful tool, period. When I worked for Radio Smack, I used IC all the time. I knew more than our indirect rep did. I'd call her to clarify something, and she almost never had a clue. It got to the point where SHE was calling ME for answers... Sad. She got fired about 18 months ago. I hear she's working for Centennial now.

Why wouldn't you just use the Calc on windows to convert Hex to Dec......or just do it in you head.....out of all the conversions that's by far the easiest.....

There's a 'scientific' setting on WC. You can do hex, octals, binary, you name it. It's easy to use but I avoid using Windows if at all possible. I'm just contrary & very pissy that way. 🙄

Change it to Scientific......in fact if you work on PC's at all I don't see why you wouldn't have it on scientific at all times........

go to View at the top and check next to Scientific......the Calc will change to all for Alphanumeric Characters and you can choose from Radio Buttons that allow showing the value in Hex(0-f), Dec(0-9), Oct(0-7) and Bin(0-1)........

Digital Pimp,

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. I did it and it said my phone software was updated. The phone then reset itself and everything is working fine.

My question is, what did that accomplish software-wise??? What might have changed? Just curious what it might have been updating/changing is all...

Thank you,

kega

usually the update, gives your phone the ability to recognize any improvements or expansions in the network...for instance if there is a tower built in your backyard, your phone will not recognize that tower unless you do the update on your phone
