Dropped Calls

I need to ask some advice real quick. When I sell anyone a phone on any of the carriers that we offer at my company, I tell people that they really shouldn't have more than 2-3 dropped calls a month and that if they have more than that they should contact customer service because there may be a problem with thier phone or may be some kind of network issue.

I also tell them that is they live in outlying areas that they will drop more calls, thats just the nature of the beast. Also I tell them that while they are traveling between cities that they are more likely to drop a call vs being in an urban area with multiple towers.

My question is: Is 2-3 dropped calls a month a fair estimate? Should I tell them that they may experience more...

I wouldn't give them an exact number. Actually when it comes to dropped calls the industry average is about 5%. VZW tries to keep it between 3% to 4%, so it really comes down to how many calls they place and recieve on there cell's as to how many dropped calls they MIGHT have every month

Thanks for the info. I know quite a bit about most of the carriers here in town, but I don't know a lot of the details, like dropped call precentage. Thanks that will help.

Thats why we are supposed to be using percentages based on the actual ammount of calls used. Gives us a better idea of whether or not there is a possible issue with a tower in the area

I'd recommend advising them to come back to the store for assistance before telling them to call customer service, if they are having dropped call problems.

There's a far better chance that their problems will be equipment-related than network related.

For dropped call issues, I'd say experientially, that something along the line of 90% tend to be related to outdated software, ancient PRLs, antenna defects, faulty capacitators, or incorrect System Select. It's going to be easier for a technician to diagnose the specific problem in almost all of these circumstances, and if an exchange is necessary, they're probably going to end up in the store anyway.

I'd further guess about 8-9% are terrain-related. (They live in a large valley, a...

Here is something to add to the pie then:

I have had Tri-Mode phones in a major city with plenty of coverage since I started working for VZW. I have had in that 14 months a total of 5 dropped calls in town. 3 previous to my switching to my current phone which is a all digital. Since then i have dropped 2 in 2 weeks.

LG VX2000 - 0 dropped calls in 12 months(user before working for company)
Audiovox 8900 - 3 dropped calls in 6 months
LG VX4500 - 2 dropped calls in 2 weeks

I loved the speakerphone on the old VX2000, then went to the 8900. I was so disappointed in that speakerphone. I am a high user of speakerphones. So gave it to my wife when hers could be upgraded to the 4500 which has a fantastic speakerphone. Now I have noticed m...
