Thanks to the responses on this forum, I've decided to switch to verizon. Now my next question is: Which phone works better on the network, the en-v or the samsung u740? I love the fact that both have the full keyboards for txting (avg. 2200 a month) and the compact size of both. Is there anything else abouth these two phones that I need to know?

I have both, well had both.

I personally think the enV is the better overall phone because of better button layout and internal screen. If size is an issue, the u740 will also fit the bill.

A trip to your local VZW to try out each one will definately be worth your time.

Any other questions let me know.

My fiancee has the U740 & I have the EnV. If you like pictures, Videos & good music, go for the Env. If you want something flashy looking, go for the U740. They're both good, but the EnV is better.

my wife has the env and simply loves it. the main difference between the two is that the env has bluetooth stereo capability and a lot better camera than the u740. i like the key setup on the env alot better because you can use it open or shut and i think the calling digits on the u740 dont stick out enough and they are small.jmho hope this helps

I would agree... although both have internal attenaes so your reception will suffer slightly. I personally have found that my samsung u740 has a slightly better signal. But this will also depend on the individual quality of the antenna and is really on a per phone basis.

Basically, from what I've read, the en-v is worth the extra money over the samsung. Correct?

Most definately.

Also, you can pick up 1 gb Micro SD cards for really cheap from like Newegg.com or buy.com

Make sure you format the card in the phone first. I use BT for file transfer and create a couple of folders called:

SDPictures
SDVideos
SDSounds

on the memory card as well. Then you can copy your music to this folder and all will be happy. Also, make sure you set the camcorder in the enV to save to the SD memory card. It will increase the recording time from 15 seconds to 1 Hour.

Both good phone so no loser no matter what. If you still are looking and deciding (and I think you aren't), The keys issue is not that big of a deal. The enV keys are definitely better but I'm not distracted or struggle with the U740. I need a bigger screen cuz I'm far sighted and don;t always have my glasses on so I really like the screen size. If you'r not visually challenged, the enVis a very good choice.

I do have to admit though, I do dig when people see the dually open deal and are like 'that's so cool'...call me a dork.

I was so closee to getting the u740; but Verizon only allowed me one more exchange and told me that the EnV was the best. So far, They're correct!

While the screen on the u740 is slightly larger, and I mean slightly, the resolution on the enV is almost twice as crisp

u740
Colors: 262,144 (18-bit)
176 x 220 pixels LCD
enV
Colors: 262,144 (18-bit)
320 x 240 pixels

I'd say that's a fair assessment. The enV is a great phone and I was having to make the same decision between the 740 and the enV and it was a close/tight decision. I really chose the 740 because of the size despite the resolution cuz of my rotten eyes needing big stuff on the screen....enV is a great phone, no doubt

I hear ya. I just recently got my first pair of progressive bi-focals and the stuff on the env screen can be really small, especially for an old fart like myself.

I like how on the u740 you can really make the numbers dialed and screen icons really big.

The eye doctor said instead of 'reading glasses' I should just get bifocals too. I fought cuz I just couldn't face it yet. So, at work, I wear my glasses 90% of the time...so much for reading...

The U740 dialing digits on screen are large and that's exactly what I like. It helps mitigate the misdialed number from such small buttons 🙂

if yu text that much i would use the env, you can read text without opening the phone and the keyboard will be a little larger for you, not to mention the camera and battery are much bigger on the env. The only this the samsung has on it is it is smaller.

The enV is quite a bit better then the u740. In my opinion the u740 is the female version of the enV. With that gold coloring on the outside it seems kinda femmy... The enV is built for a guys hand, it feels really solid compared to the u740. In addition the samsungs seem to have batteries that just dont last! Lastly I dont like the hinge on the u740 it seems a little on the flimsy side.
