changing phones
A friend of mine just gave me an old phone, does it cost anything to switch back and forth between the two?

If you go to the same store and switch constantly they will probably end up charging you. I've heard that some Verizon stores charge for tasks like this but I haven't experienced it first hand. Visit a COR store and they should do it no charge.

Doing ESN changes at a corporate store or through customer service will cost $20. However that $20 fee also covers the cost of phonebook transfer.
Doing ESN changes online at My Account is absolutely free of charge.
A note that should be kept in mind however, insurance follows the phone, and once removed voluntarily for any reason, it is permanently lost until you purchase another phone directly from verizon wireless.
Example: Phone A is purchased with insurance added for the first time on 01/01/2007. On 02/01/2007 you decide to swap out to phone B which you previously owned. Once that swap is done insurance is permanently removed from phone A, even if you decide to switch back to phone A just a few minutes after. If you've had...
