warranty questions with purchasing used phones....

ok,

So I was thinking about buying an EnV off of craigslist...and I was wondering if any of you could clarify what type of warranty coverage you can get from a corporate store if you have any problems with the phone

I was under the impression that if you bought the phone private party, and activated it, you weren't eligible for any warranty from VZN. Due to the fact that YOU did not orginally purchase the phone from VZN.

Can anyone clarify?

Also, did verizon ever actually implement the program where you could buy a FRU for $50 if your phone crapped out? I heard they were gonna do that sometime last year, but not sure if it ever went into effect.

Thanks in advance for your answers

only the manufacture will honor the one year warranty from orginal date of purchase.

the fru program is only for phones that are out of warranty, where you can pay the $50, and get a replacement.

ok, so if I bought this enV from craigslist...would it be considered out of warranty since I was not the original purchaser? I guess I just want a way to get a possible replacement if the phone craps out.

If this is your main concern don't buy except from Verizon itself. I am fairly sure the warranty would be void, but check with a local store when you switch to be sure.

yeah, that was my original thinking, but I think I can get a pretty good deal on this phone, where the potential risk might be worth it...i prolly will check with my local corp store, we'll see what kind of info I get..lol

Okay that's all wrong. A FRU is usually done on a phone that IS under the 1 year manufacturer warranty. They are free of charge. A $50 FRU is done when the warranty is up.

As long as the phone was originally purchased from Verizon or Brighstar then they should cover the warranty. If it was purchased from another source they may not. As long as it's still less than 1 year from the original purchase it should be fine. It doesn't matter that you purchased it from someone else.
