Best 2nd line & phone deal?

vdubreeze

I've had Verizon in NYC for several years, and actually am still running monthly on my old $35 per mo. status, though the agreement has long expired. Now I need to get a second phone & line strictly for minimal use by the rest of the family, not casual calls. So I want a barely used second line/phone, and I'd be content to have a plan like the one I'm still on. Don't need more than my 300 peak minutes.

All I get shown in the V stores is $40 + $20 for the two line deal. I'm not bothered by having to raise my plan in order to get a better rate on something else, but when I got my phone originally it was at a recommended independant cell phone store, and I got a better deal, all things considered, than I was able to get at the V store...

Unfortunately $59.99 is the best deal for a fam share plan ($39.99 for the primary and $20 for the secondary).

The prices are set by VZW not the stores; the only thing I've come to realize is that some indirect agents will add features to an acct that they are not supposed to.

And now that the V stores have the 9900 for $50 & a free VX 3200 for th 2nd line with 2yrs, they may have a better phone deal than I can get elsewhere, certainly better than I've seen so far.

Might just have to do that one today.

Thanks, sch,

Well for once there's a happy ending. After walking down Broadway from the Upper West Side, hitting every indy store plus the V store at 81st, I ended up at my final destination should I not do the deal by Tiimes Square, the V store at 42nd & 6th. And after putting up with unbelievable, soul stupifying BS at every stop, I had a great experience there, because I was told, point blank, that I did NOT have to raise my $35 plan to the $40 one to get a 9900 for $50 and add a second line with a free VX 3200 for $20. I'm aware the plans are not the same feature-wise, but it was exactly what I wanted, and this was the first place (including other V stores) that told me I could do it!!

I have to admit carefully scoping out the salespeople...

Just becuase you got the answer you wanted doesn't mean that it was the truth... in fact, that sounds very fishy to me.

No, I checked and the $35 plan is still a valid plan, they just don't put it on the literature. Today I returned to another V store that didn't alert me to this possibility and when I pressed them they sheepishly acknowledged it. 2 lines, $55, Audiovox 9900 and free VX 3200. Didn't have it among the options last week....

Same plan I've had all along, still available. For someone that doesn't use 300 peak minutes it's a good option.

Not fishy. I'm up and running.

Yeah, the 300 minute America's Choice plan is $34.99/mo. It is not published - it's there for those people who think 300 minutes is A LOT. But realistically, with nights & weekends, and in-network, you could use very few of those 300 minutes even still. The only thing you didn't mention is the new 2-yr contract, which you DO need to agree to.

Just grabbed our lit on the CDM8910 promotion ($49.99, same as CDM9900). At the bottom it states, "Just sign a new 2-year agreement on any calling plan $34.99 or higher." Easy as that.

Yes, but the AM choice 300 min plan is NOT available on family share.

I'd call Customer Serice and ask what plan you are on.

Sounds fishy to me.

That's what I was talking about Kahuna... I knew about the unpublished plan for $34.99/month, but all the reference materials for it say that it is NOT shareable for a family plan.

My understanding is that it's not a family plan, where we get free calls to each other and other features, such as no incoming call charge. We just share the 300 minutes, no features.

That's what a family share plan is. Features are never shared, but this feature that you are talking about with no charge for incoming calls does not exist. My friend, I think that either you misunderstood, or you got suckered, or the salesperson just had no idea what was going on.

JD,

I guess I didn't write the post well. I was just being hypothetical expressing the features of the "family plan", which I did not want, didn't get. I wanted to stay with my $35 plan and get a new phone and second line, and by signing on for two years I got the 9900 for $50 and a free VX 3200, and a second line for the 3200 for $20. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough on that. 2 lines, no $40 family plan.

I had been led to believe elsewhere, most emphatically at the indy stores, that this was not possible, and the first V store I went to did not make me aware I could do this, even though I inquired. Probably just a new salesperson. Doesn't matter.

I'm happy with the phones and the deal.

Okay, I understand that, but what we are trying to tell you is that our information says that the $35 plan is NOT SHAREABLE, PERIOD. Now there could be exceptions made, but I've never seen or heard of it. That's why I think you should maybe get ahold of customer care or go back to the store to clarify so you don't bet burned on your bill. Regardless, I'm not sure why you wouldn't just go ahead and pay five more dollars a month to have 100 more peak minutes plus unlimited mobile to mobile for both phones...

As far as the 300 mins not available to share. That is incorrect, at least here in the east you can have a 300 mins on a family share. It's 34.99b for the primary and $20 for the secondary. It's not common but it is available.

Well maybe it's because I'm in the West then. I've been told that it's not possible, and all the collateral says the same thing. Does anybody else in the West know any different? I guess its not really a big issue, because like I said before the average person would much rather pay five dollars more and get everything else that comes with it.

Really? Are you absolutely certain about that? Not that I'm accusing you of being a liar or anything, I'm just kind of blown away by this information as I am also located in the East and I have no information, codes, collateral, or anything of the sort that says this is possible.

Have you ever actually done this or is this heresay?

Why is it so hard to believe? It's all right there in the info manager under the promo section. And yes....I have actually put people on this calling plan because it's what they wanted! Are you in sales or customer service?

Sales. But I work for an agent. We don't always get the same options as VZW direct. I have no info to say that this is available. I am not trying to step on anyone's toes, I'm trying to keep myself informed.

And as someone above mentioned. Just because they think they got something, it doesn't mean they really got it. Anyone in Customer Service should know this.

It may be a Northesast thing, but I re-verified and it's as I had said.

As far as why I didn't just go fo the $40 + 20, I've been on the same plan for 3 years and never cracked 200 peak minutes, so as long as it was available it made no sense to bump up to 400. And it's unlimited between the two phones. At the end of two years we'll have talked less on the phone and I can hand her the $120 difference in appreciation of her being less of a yenta than her friends.
