New service with your own equipment?

Hello!

I need to drop AT&T and get Verizon, but I want the LG VX8000 phone that is not out yet. I need to confirm that I can sign up with my own equipment now, then upgrade to the VX8000 when it is released and get the phone discounts that a new user would get at that time. A friend will loan me her old LG TM510 Verizon phone to use until the VX8000 comes out.

I just got off the phone with Verizon's customer service and they said that I can sign up with my own equipment and later upgrade with the same discounts as a new user when the VX8000 is released, but I need something in writing to guarantee that I can do what I plan. This is an unofficial response from a relatively NEW VZW rep.

What you've been told should hold true, however, as you mentioned, you should get it in writing from a CSR's manager or a local store manager. I would suggest writing out your own explanation of what you'd like to do and have someone from VZW management sign it as well - just to show that an actual conversation took place.

And for clarity, the discount we are talking about will be the price with a new 2 year discount on it. I don't know what that will be, but it WILL be the cheapest (and safest) way to go. If you sign up on a contract with a phone you bring in (that is free to use, mind you), you should be able to upgrade. But as I said, get it verified and in writing.

Just have them comment your acctount... That way if you wanted to do it via telesales they can just read comments or at any VZW direct store. Also ask them to put it in the "hot remarks" page on the acct. too so it is easily seen

Yes, those of us on the VZW side need to do this anyway - but that's still little guarantee that a jerk manager or inexperienced telesales person will follow through. Having it in hard format can't hurt.
