New service with your own equipment?
I need to drop AT&T and get Verizon, but I want the LG VX8000 phone that is not out yet. I need to confirm that I can sign up with my own equipment now, then upgrade to the VX8000 when it is released and get the phone discounts that a new user would get at that time. A friend will loan me her old LG TM510 Verizon phone to use until the VX8000 comes out.
I just got off the phone with Verizon's customer service and they said that I can sign up with my own equipment and later upgrade with the same discounts as a new user when the VX8000 is released, but I need something in writing to guarantee that I can do what I plan. What you've been told should hold true, however, as you mentioned, you should get it in writing from a CSR's manager or a local store manager. I would suggest writing out your own explanation of what you'd like to do and have someone from VZW management sign it as well - just to show that an actual conversation took place.
And for clarity, the discount we are talking about will be the price with a new 2 year discount on it. I don't know what that will be, but it WILL be the cheapest (and safest) way to go. If you sign up on a contract with a phone you bring in (that is free to use, mind you), you should be able to upgrade. But as I said, get it verified and in writing.
