Is wifi fully functional?

I have a motorols V325 with Verizon and I'm happy with it. I've been shopping for a pda with wifi to record radio shows I'm currently recording on a pc over my home wireless network. It occurred to me that a wifi equipped smart phone (Samsung SCH-i730 maybe) might do the same thing, and would give more more options in terms of which appliance to buy. My question is can such a phone access wireless networks just like my laptop or is the wifi aspect crippled in any way by verizon. At least initially, I wouldn't care about the phone functions. My hope would be to record to a memory card. Thanks all.
