Within a family plan (verizon)
Can two phone numbers be switched between 2 phones in the plan?
So hypothetically
Phone 1 has number 123-4567
Phone 2 has number 234-5678
can I switch them to...
Phone 1 234-5678
Phone 2 123-4567
???
and if so, what is the fee to make this happen or is it a free service? Thank you

Yes. I believe it is free to do an ESN change. The only thing is that phone 1 will then have the contacts that were on phone 2 and vice versa. your best bet is to bring it into a store so they are move your phone books around too. hope this helps.

My boyfriend and I would do that all the time.
He was the primary account holder on the plan and would be the one eligible for the upgrade. He really did not care what phone he had, so he would get the new phone and then we would activate it for my account.
We never had a probably besides the usual cluelessness I find with the customer service reps, but after they understood what was going on everything worked out.

But there is a feature on the VZW.com website on My Account to do it yourself
Has anyone done this? I tried to test it out and the process tells you to dial *228 to finish the switching/reprogramming process but it fails and says that I have to call customer service and my phones remain unswitched
Is this a gimmick for them to just get an extra 20 bucks off me?

I have never paid. We have done it on line and through customer service when we had problems.
I would call them and ask for help and they should not charge you.
