Activate existing phone??? HELP
I recently received an email from verizon regarding how to activate an existing phone..
"As a registered "My Account" user, you may process an ESN/MEID change online at no charge. Please visit www.verizonwireless.com/login
1. From the "My Account" overview page, select Activate a New Phone, which is located in the My Phone section at the bottom left of your My Account home page.
2. Click the "Activate Existing Equipment" link
3. Enter in the new ESN/MEID and select the reason for change
You may also process your ESN/MEID change through Customer Service by calling 800-922-0204 from a land-based phone. A $20 charge will apply to process the handset change through Customer Service."

What area of the country are you in?

If you're going from a non-EVDO handset to an EVDO (or vice-versa) handset then there's going to be an issue.
Usually, if you explain to the rep that you attempted online and received that message, they will waive the $20 fee.

In fact, there are specific reasons VZW customer service reps can waive the ESN change fee, one of which is if you've tried to do it online and it errors out on you. I'd caution against using this as a get out of jail free card as the more conscientious CSRs are going to try and troubleshoot the heck out of the problem - the bit about the EV-DO to non-EV-DO (and non-camera to camera for that matter) is well known but if you're moving from, say, an LG 8100 to an 8300 and it doesn't work, they may have to figure out why so that the issue can be fixed.
It's all about time. Personally, I find it about 50 times easier to just go online and switch out a phone than to call in, wait on hold, and worry that the rep might have mis-input the ESN.
