New every 2? Have to resign 2 year contract?

I was just told by a Verizon rep that in order to use the NE2 that you have to sign up for another 2 year contract to use the $100 credit. I wanted to buy the 9900 with a a 1 year contract and since my NE2 is up I wanted a 1 year contract, but they made me sign up for another 2 to get the credit. Has anyone ever got around this?

No. It's a credit for completing 22 months of a 2 year contract and getting a new 2 year contract. Anytime you move off a 2 year contract you are no longer eligable for new every 2.

Are you sure about that, as far as I was aware the only stipulations to get ne2 was that it's been 22 months since the last time that you got promo pricing on new equipment, that you were on at least a 34.99 calling plan for those 22 months, and that you sign a new 2 year service agreement. I've never heard anything about the whole one year thing.

Case in point: Cust has completed 1 1/2 years on a 2 year service agreement and upgrades to a new calling plan therefore only extending the service agreement for 1 year. Are you trying to state that since they are now only on a 1 year service agreement that they will not be eligible for ne2 once they've had their phone 22 months????

If they sign a one year contract they would be losing thier new every 2 eligability. If they signed a 2 year contact and got a new phone when they did it at promotional pricing, they would be eligable for new every 2 after another 22 months. If they sign a 2 year agreement and dont get a new phone when they do, they will be eligable for new every two on the original eligability date.

If they agree to a one year contract and it extends their current one, it does *not* disqualify them from New Every Two eligibility at their original eligibility date.

I think we've tried to make this more complicated than it really is. Let me confuse us more. Let's use Bob as an example and give him a brand new VZW line of service. Bob signed a 2 year contract with VZW. In exchange for that 2 commitment VZW give Bob an additional 50.00 off an already discounted LG 7000. The retail for the phone is $299.99. If he had only done a 1yr contract he would have paid $249.99. But because of his comittment, he only pays 149.99, which is -50.00 for the 2yr contract and -50.00 for a rebate which he only qualifies for if he does a 2yr contract. (Breath)...As we can see, the New Every 2 program hasn't even been mentioned yet. Bob does qualify for the program, but we need to remember this first transaction wit...

You forgot that he could also disqualify himself by moving to a calling plan lower than 34.99, but otherwise, the above is accurate.

No actually that would extend his contract!

One quick question. Say at month 11 Bobs phone kickes the bucket because his dog ate it (bobs got a really angry dog). Is he SOL and has to pay full retail price or is he able to purchase a phone as some lesser discount?

He's SOL if he had a 2 year contract. If he had a one year then he would be eligible to upgrade again at month 10. His only safety might be if he bought the insurance.

Here's a second question along these lines:

If you finish out a 1 year contract, and then sign up for a 2 yr, are you eligible for New Every Two or not? Or is it only for ppl finishing a 2 yr and signing a new 2 yr?

Hmm... that rather sucks on Verizon's part. ☚ī¸

Still, thanks for the clarification.

Not really Jake.

You have to FINISH a 2 year agreement to be eligable. You need to upgrade to a new 2 year agreement to use the NE2 at the end of your old 2 year agreement.

If you finish a 1 year agreement you will not be eligable for the NE2 regardless of what you do. You don't qualify to receive the $100 credit on a new phone due to the fact you only finished a 1 year agreement.

Actually you only need to complete 22 of the 24 months....

Oh, I'm not trying to be petulant, Fox. Its just that you get nada zilch zero if you're on a 1 yr contract, and on some of the other carriers, thats not the case. Sprint, if memory serves me, gives you up to $150 off on a 2 yr contract, and $100 on a 1 yr.

Not that I'd go with Sprint... they don't have the network, Verizon does.

Actually, Sprint didn't offer it until recently, (which I think they call New for you, or some other phonetically similar name to our original New Every Two)

Ok, so they're copycats. Point is, they give you something for a 1 yr contract.

Guess Verizon NOT doing that is something I'll just have to accept as an added cost of using the best.

You should get the one-year discount after a one year contract. It's about $50 off retail.

That's the first I've heard of anything like this. Is there any info on the Verizon website anywhere? I don't seem to see it.

I just looked on the website and the only info I could find was about NE2. I suspect that if you log on to My Account and you are in that place for an upgrade, it will give you that price. I can't say for sure as I'm not due for an upgrade.

The website generally will give the lowest price to the customer to entice the sell... 😈
So that's why it's hard to find info on what discount you can get for just a one year contract. However, you will receive a discount. How much? Depends on the phone and the offer at the time. Generally as a rule of thumb, take 50.00 off the retail cost of the phone for each year you committ. Don't forget that with a 2yr you may get a rebate with the phone as well.

This is normal... Even if you're on a 1 year contract to start, to upgrade your hardware, they require a 2 year contract. It can be gotten around if you don't mind losing your number... Start a new line of service and then get the brand spankin new customer discount, and then cancel the other line(after you change voicemail to "Hey, I got a new number it's BLAH BLAH BLAH" and leaving the phone off for 3 weeks. 🙂

Alright.....Hold on here......I'm a little pissed if I lost my NE2......And based on what you guy's are saying I might have......

I had a 2 year contract....signed june 02....2 years were up in june 04.....signed a 1 yr contract last month (Sept 04) with the hopes that I would be able to sign a 2 year contract in sept 05 and then use my NE2 discount on a PDA phone......

Just because I decided to wait for an actually decent phone? Did verizon cut my NE2 discount?

If the 1yr contract was for a new phone, then you lost the NE2. If it was for anything other than that, you can still get your NE2.

Let me break it down.

A. You got a new price plan and it extended your contract

B. You got a new promotion for "whatever" and it extended your contract

C. You got a new phone at the 1 or 2 year "Upgrade" price and that extended your contract

ONLY "C" WILL DISQUALIFY YOU FROM NE2. If "A" or "B" you still can take advantage of it.

That doesn't make any sense.

The New Every Two discount is OFF the brand new customer price.

Dont forget everyone...

Depending on when his new every two started, it may have a 6 month expiration date, from the date of eligability. If his NE2 has that date, by the time his new one year contract ended, his new every 2 credit would have expired....

That's the way it works. I just re-read some info to make sure. In order to use your new every two you must sign a new two year agreement. They are giving you this extra money off for agreeing to stay another two years.
